They Fixed Intel's 12th Gen BENDING CPU Problem!

Let’s get started with intel. So the company released alder lake a couple of months ago. Great comeback from the blue team in terms of performance and even value. But people have been seeing some weird issues with the CPU itself. Now as you might have noticed from many reviews online, the cpu sometimes runs pretty hot. I mean 90+ degrees celsius happens pretty often when stress testing and especially when you look at the 12900K and KS.

Well, that might not be because the chip can consume all the way up to 240 watts when on load. Apparently, the cpu itself, like the PCB and heatspreader, that might be the cause. Here is an example posted by Jisaku hibi on youtube. Right her, they show the cpu in the socket. As you can see, its not tied down by the bracket just yet. That big black thing on top of the cpu is a reference for flatness you can barely see light pass through the crack. Now look at what happens after the cpu is tied down. Now that’s a bendy boy.

It might not seem like much, but basically, this huge gap has to be filled with thermal paste and it makes for pretty bad contact with the cooler. Now intel knows about this and basically says that theres nothing to see here. Well, Thermalright doesnt seem to agree because they just released a bender correction frame for the CPU. Its a replacement to the original bracket for LGA 1700 and it bolts into the existing bracket holes to keep your cpu flat. I mean thermalright is a trustworthy company when it comes to cooling, so if they needed to come out with a solution, then we know that there was a problem.

That bend is pretty bad. And worse is their smug, dismissive attitude to the situation.

At this point, I feel like if I sneeze that would somehow void the warranty

That is a massive gap when you are talking about small tolerances.

Complete myth. The spring that the heatsink has to push the heatsink on the CPU are very powerful, and they just straighten the cpu again over time, it will be completely straight at one point.

Raptor Lake will have same bending issues as Alder Lake (same package).

So, when you buy an intel cpu, please dont forget to add a cpu unbending bracket, to fix an intel known issue. Because Intel doesn't want to spend money on a fix for you, they want you to spend money on a modifying fix, that could potentially void your warranty. Nice! I'll take 2.

Unless motherboard manufacturers offer a solution, like less retention or 4 way clip retention for coming Raptor Lake and future chips it doesn't look good.

I was about to buy a 12th gen i7 but saw a mention of "bending" in a review on newegg. I searched for intel cpu bending and your video popped up. Thank you for the amazing video, so now I know to buy an extra attachment in order to get my CPU to stay cool. Thanks!!

Thermal Grizzly has also developed their own bracket replacement and it should be hitting retail soon.

will this also be valid on the Z790 / B760 etc? Will the LGA1700 socket issue persist with new motherboards too? being the same with Intel's 13th gen, or despite the identical socket will manufacturers be able to modify / refine the LGA1700 to eliminate this contact problem?

When MSRP seems like from a scalper, you know you don't want to buy anything.

They had this same problem about 10 years ago. Apparently they never really fixed it.

It will be multiple generations of GPU releases before a reasonable priced GPU or APU will hit Indian Market. It may take a year or more for RDNA2 based APUs will hit Indian Markets. RX6400 is not a stop-gap arrangement, it is not even available in India.

That's why I'm keeping my 11th gen build. At least it doesn't bend.

I have removed the LGA bracket because it was bending my CPU and I used a custom correction frame that fixed the issue...
