Oh boy. Things are not good for Intel at the moment, but that means it's also not good for us gamers, PC builders and PC enthusiasts.

If you haven't been following it, there's a lot of news about instability issues with Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs:

Some good news. There have already been BIOS updates released!

Couldn't have happened to a better cutthroat company than Intel.

To be clear, Any Intel CPU that's still in its box has a better chance of surviving than those that have been running for some time. If you have a new CPU, just apply the latest updates and limit its power at the board level to make sure it doesn't kill itself.

Ive backed AMD since the early 2000's when intel dominated the market, i just cant understand why AMD isnt more popular and why we dont see as many streamer builds as we do Intel.

I own a 13700K built in a 7000D case based on your video...crashed multiple times trying to edit and render an hour long video of an onstage talk with motion graphics.
I'm so miffed right now.

I have a gaming computer, bought six months ago, i9 1400k, worked great for six months then constant crashing in cod, unable to get into cod for weeks, get in then crashes, re loaded windows, re installed game three times etc to no avail, installed the latest bios from msi that came out 8 August 2024 and sorted all problems, straight into cod no issues, just wondering what damage has been done to my cpu and or my brd memory etc.

I have been using only Intel since the Athlon days but I think I'll be back to AMD. Not only because of the recent troubles with the Intel CPU but also because the Ryzen do so well with little power nowadays, it's a strong appeal.

No, it's just bad to be an Intel cpu gamer, enthusiast right now.

With my tuned 13600K I can play Battlefield 2042 at 200 Fps while running Y-Cruncher in background and it won't even choke

I am on my second i9 13900K in seven months. First was incredibly unstable. Lots of crashes and BSoD after six months light usage. I was sure it was the motherboard (MSI Z690-A Pro), but I have no spare parts to troubleshoot so I sent the machine away for repair. The repair bloke said it was the CPU. I thought it was BS, but the machine was working with a new one in it so I just got on with it. Fast forward another six months and I started getting instability issues again. Several crashes every day for maybe six weeks while playing games.

I then saw that my issues were maybe down to degradation of the CPU, so I have arranged a replacement via RMA and it will be here next week. I still have the faulty CPU in my PC, but in prep for the new one I updated my BIOS and I am now in my fourth day with ZERO crashes. It is my understanding that if your CPU was fine, but now isn't, it has degraded and needs replacing, whether a BIOS update makes it stable or not.

FYI for those updating BIOS: When I updated my BIOS it reset my boot drive order and when the system rebooted it was stuck in a repair loop. If this happens to you, just make your Windows drive your primary drive again and it will boot as normal. Something most people maybe know, but it caught me off guard and had me panic for a bit. xd

Did intel just clock out if the CPU race? My 13700kf is faulty running hot and crashing, no fix found yet. I don’t know what to do as I don’t have the money for a replacement. Intel need to stand forth and offer a better solution as I smell a class action on the horizon .

I'n the Future I'm considering AMD. Intel should have not had this issue for so long.

Before I purchased my new computer two months ago, I had an 8th gen i7 and honestly till this day I never had a single blue screen and it ran beautifully and still does, zero signs of any degradation. I only upgraded because Adobe products required far more memory and power to run. Therefore I just wonder what happened since the time I got the 8th gen to now. I blame Intel and motherboard manufacturers, it’s inexcusable that out of the box the bios specs do not match what Intel has on its website. Either Intel knew about this or they looked the other way and didn’t care. Either way they are responsible and need to make the public whole again. However I do feel with the microcode patch, the RMA’s and the new processors launching, no one will remember this issue 6 months for now.

The 7800x3d is still the best gaming processor out there. Prospective buyers may wanna stick to AMD for a while.

My i7-14700k has random hangups even with only light usage.
I usually go with the bang-for-the-buck non-"K" i5's but the one time I step up to an i7 "K" variant there's this situation.

I can’t believe how hot these CPUs have got. I did a 10 yearly update on my computer and completely renewed the lot. I’ve been doing it since the windows dos days so plenty of experience. I have ended up altering the BIOS CPU voltage and managed to get the temperature down from 90-100° but at the expense of speed I believe. I have now added a shed load of fans including an industrial extraction system through my study wall. Ridiculous situation and like you I’m out of money and favour with my wife as the computer is much noisier, and the speed compared to my old 10 year old CPU is no different and, more noticeable, the room I work in is in the thirties degrees centigrade temperature. I wish I had never spent the £2000 and kept my old one. Pointless exercise as my wife keeps pointing out.
On the plus side I’ll be able to heat my house with it in winter

MSI released a bios update for my Z790 MEG ACE Max on 8/8. Apparently, they hadn't released it for all Z790 Mobos on that day, but I was able to update mine.

If your CPU starts becoming unstable after some time of operation then it's RMA time because that CPU has degraded. Even if the BIOS update temporarily fixes the issue, You can't tell how much degradation took place and the safest choice would be an RMA

Now, exactly, does the i9 processor of the 12th generation of the K series face these problems or not? Do you think that overclocking this CPU might endanger the CPU? This is the question of many users, please answer
