How to Flip Your Classroom

With advanced technology available to both students and teachers, teachers are changing their lesson plans to digital formats and methods, by creating digital lectures and placing them online for students. This avenue allows students to spend as much or as little time as they need on lectures; they can set their own pace. By "flipping the classroom" traditional homework is done in class, while listening to class lectures becomes the homework.

Do not apply this model. I'm a sophomore in high school and we follow this system in our AP Chemistry class. The videos that the teachers make are of poor quality, sound as if they are being read from a textbook, and are cringy to watch. During class, out teacher has the excuse to not teach anything as we are following flipped classroom and proceeds to do nothing in class. At home, they expect us to teach ourselves AP Chemistry, which is a tough subject to learn on our own, using the textbook they have provided for us, which is dry and confusing. We learn the entire course content of AP Chem all at home, which is unreasonable for a high school student as I have 7 other classes and various extra-curriculars to worry about as well. In class, it's tough to go through all the questions as everyone is confused and the teachers are not super helpful in explaining them. Plus, there is no point in collaborating with other students if a solid base of understanding hasn't been built yet. I also miss the teacher interactions that we have while listening to lectures in class. Lectures are a really good way of teaching if done right (this includes student participation and the enthusiasm of the teacher while teaching) and it also allows us to learn and explore deeper and get our questions answered in class.
