Best Budget Monitor? - SmallHD 701 Review

My lighting was messed up sorry for the weird colour grade, let me know your thoughts on the SmallHD lineup and your go to monitor!
WHY I CHOSE THIS OVER THE ATOMOS: The atomos products are fantastic, however as mentioned in my review I don't find the screen on the Sony A7sII all that sharp at times, I often struggle pulling focus on it, so for me focus peaking and having an incredibly sharp screen was critical. After using the lower line atomos products such as the shogun/ninja I didn't think the screens were of the same quality as the SmallHD products, however I would definitely be interested in trying the Atomos Flame.

I can't see myself buying another monitor anytime soon however an iPhone sized monitor would be perfect.

You should dial back you "LUT" use there buddy! Colors are all kinds of outta whack.

I have the SmallHD 501. It's great, but due to it not accepting a 4K signal; we can't really magnify the frame. All we can do is upscale it above 100%. Up-scaling makes the picture soft. That kind of defeats the purpose.

I'm kind of on the fence with getting a SmallHD 501 monitor. Would you say the SmallHD 501 monitor is easier to see than most internal Sony screens? I'm currently having issues pulling focus on the A6300 because the screen is so hard to see.

I was wondering, are you still able to record in 4k (24fps) when using the 501 as a monitor.

I got the sony A7Sii after talking with you, but I'm gutted that I can't record videos like this:


Because I can't even see myself (shooting B-roll is amazing but I can't shoot talking head videos etc which is huge for my company)

I keep on getting recommended the Atmos Flame, but I'm so unsure about that tbh

lol ... you said in the title of this video that this is a BUDGET monitor ? My GOD. This is one of the most expensive field monitors in the market. Ikan 5Dhe or Black magic assistan 5'' are at the half of the price and both full HD resolution (Black magic assistan is also a recorder!!!)

can you use this on a stabiliser like the zhiyun crane- or would it be too heavy
