Sorry, this is telling a fraction of the story. Hertz had issues
setting up customers with the product which was the first problem. Phone apps and out of commission chargers were a real bug bear that many customers didn't take lightly.
Then there were the customers that liked to take full advantage of the Tesla's performance but without the required skill or mechanical sympathy. These customers were mainly rideshare drivers. The end result was that the average Tesla was costing about twice as much in repairs as the average fleet car and the turn around time for those repairs was far longer.
The final nail in the coffin was Tesla's price cutting which wipe tens of millions off the resale value of Hertz's Tesla fleet. For all of Tesla's qualities, they just weren't a value proposition as a hire car.

We bought one of the Hertz used model 3. 2023 with 11K miles. My wife loves it. No more pumping gas, no maintenance, no hassles. I have a model S. These Tesla's have been the best cars we've ever had

Tell the entire story. Customers didn't like them. Imagine a customer who doesn't want to wait for hours to go. No way 😂😂😂. What hotels have charging stations 😮

I rented a polestar from hertz once for a work trip. I prepaid the "fuel, " and my trip didn't require charging for the round trip. This was fine for those conditions. It would have been a huge pain in the ass otherwise. I dont want any charging apps on my phone collecting more data, and i dont want to wait in the cold for 40 minutes waiting for a charge that costs as much as gas would cost. The "good" part of the experience with EVs is charging at home on those cheap electrons while you sleep. A rental situation is mostly the downside with no upside.

Having rented four different EVs from Hertz including three times with the Model 3 and four times with the Model Y I'm glad Hertz is ditching the Teslas. I had nothing but issues (seats not adjusting, window motor failures, phantom breaking, loosing 17% of charged while parked overnight at 70° temp, etc.). The Hertz people I have talked to about these issues said that none of the Teslas hold up past 20K miles without needing months at a Tesla service center. Tesla never supported Hertz post sale and Hertz won't re-invest in a bad product. I always request the Kia EV6 from Hertz. I have never had any issues with the Kia and Kia fixes minor issues for Hertz same day or in a few days. I'm glad I could rent the Teslas to try them so I know not to buy a Tesla. I feel sorry for those that do buy Tesla as I have never heard anything good about Tesla's post purchase customer service. I feel sorry for those that buy one of the Hertz Teslas. For the past 4 years my daily driver is an EV (BMW i3) and I won't go back to a gas car. I'm glad that Hertz is investing in non-Tesla EVs.

What a great business man take a 90% loss on the cars, and increase price of maintenance. Smh!!

We hired a MY whilst travelling in the US from hertz and didn't have any issues. Same as what we have at home. No worries. Bad move hertz.

Ya might want to do a little research, it was NOT just resale, but the maintenance and repairs were multiple of ICE cars.

When News first came out that hertz was buying 100, 000 Tesla’s - - I distinctly remember mark fields, former ceo of ford, the guy that used to work at river rouge, and live in Miami, and daily fly up to work on his corporate jet paid for by ford - - say this is genius . Hertz is so smart to get these Tesla’s. Then he gets hired by hertz, and he says gotta get rid of all this crap. This fields guy is wierd. I wouldn’t hire him to do ANYTHING.

They’re just getting ahead of all the battery failures that are coming for them, and they know as soon as Trump takes office the oil industry is going to go on full 24/7 production and EV demand will disappear overnight…😂

I have a 2019 M3D and I have only spent money on tires -3000k two sets which include alignment and balancing.

Yes….you need to spend money on charging but my point is that the car is rock solid. Ever an issue for me and I’m going on 85k miles.

I would totally purchase another Tesla

Hertz was charging customers to fill the tank with gas when they returned them. So there’s that, not the smartest company.

I work for hertz and all our teslas have 50k minimum up to 70k! That’s a lot of mileage for hertz.

The problem is that they bought too many cars and they almost all got delivered in the same two quarters. We got an aging fleet of Teslas that nobody want, because nobody understands electric vehicles. It takes to much manpower to explain to every customer how an electric car works how to recharge it and what level you need to return it to.

It also cost (at least in Illinois) almost the same the recharge at superchargers that it takes to use a gas car. It’s a shame.

Of course, all ev drivers love our electric fleet but that’s still a minority. We do give a lot of teslas to uber drivers tho, they usually love it!

By now everyone should know that electric cars cost a lot more in repairs than an average normal SO definetly not the full story here. And i am not even talking about replacing the battery, that will only come in a few years

The problem was that Hertz made a special weekly deal with Uber for a good weekly unlimited miles rate. And the Uber Drivers were renting them and riding them hard 12 or more hours a day and supercharging them to 100 percent over and over again. So the cars were depreciating faster than a typical business rental because they were being used so hard.

Your first mistake is renting from Hertz, when someone rents or buys a car from them they will report it stolen and get you arrested and then there was one of their customers who rented an electric car from them and upon return they charged them $277.00 for not filling up the gas tank. Hertz is a clown show !!!

I have a 2019 model 3 drive part-time for Uber, and passengers always think my car is new. I think Tesla's are amazing, but Hertz hurt themselves buy making it inconvenient to rent and charge. If your first EV experience is going to be a Hertz rental it will likely end in a negative experience because of their policy and charging rules.

Buy something that most people don't want should be cheap, insurance for EVs is expensive, charging is expensive when not done at home and they don't work at all in minus 20

Until it gets bitter cold and you can't charge your car or drive it. Yeah, I'll stick with my I.C.E. (pun intended) Honda Accord.

He’s right the resale value is not very good for Tesla and I’ll probably go down in the future. They’re making them faster and cheaper so the used ones are getting less and less valuable but they do run good and they are low maintenance.
