I have finally driven the new 2024 VW Tiguan. I drove over 600 miles in my week with the new VW Tiguan and really got a good feel for the car. The infotainment system is a huge step forward for VW but I was most surprised by the 1.5L petrol engine.

The Tiguan is now a big car. I passed a 24 plate one today and thought that it was a Touareg at first.

Totally agree re the R/S lines, M sport and AMG line etc. It dilutes the brand.

With EV's, Hybrids and just bonkers legislation/bonkers design, I have a real desire to go analogue. In fact if I had the money I'd quite fancy a 1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands that's currently listed for sale on a well known web site for £40k!

I’ve loved my mk1 and mk2 Tiguans. Looking to buy Mk3 petrol and not sure about Hybrid and battery life. The spider traps on the panoramic roof blocked and caused wet carpets. Arrrghh! Looking forward to your Hybrid review. Thanks.

Really enjoyed your interview and road test you are absolutely spot on regarding the R badging I totally agree with your statement.
Yes the 150 PS 1.5 EVO engine is a peach just imagine how the T Cross drives with the same engine!
Not keen like your self on the hear shift and indicator/wiper stalk but the I am old school too..
another great review PP. the hybrid next then the Full fat R review and road test.

Hello petrol ped
Great review very informative the bits that I am unsure on are the big screen on top of the dashboard I don’t understand why it can’t be integrate better. I also agree with you on the R point keep up the great work

I agree with you about the R badging. Especially as I have a VW Arteon R.

Why is there a lap-top on the dash? VW have really lost their way with interiors IMHO!

You are so right about car manufacturers misusing their high performance branding. A few years ago I had an M3 and someone said “I have one as well, ” no he didn’t he had a mid range car with the M-Sport pack! No M engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes, just a normal car with a nice interior. But he really thought they were the similar cars!

Love the reviews Pete!! I’m in the market for an suv and drove the Tiguan R Line a couple of days ago and felt the fit and finish was lacking, most annoyingly there was a buzzing from somewhere behind the dashboard, it was a nice car nonetheless. The infotainment was complicated though and not that driver friendly, just my opinion. I’ve checked out most of the competition and my previous late 2020 Q3 was a great car. Interestingly I am steering towards a Mazda CX5 having also tested a Sportage. The Mazda is super quality and in my opinion more premium than one might think it’s also a bit more old school which perhaps isn’t a bad thing.

I totally agree with the badge things Sir Pete! Also I don’t think I’d like the giant screen in the middle. But it seems like a nice suv.

Had a Mk2 for years. Excellent family car with loads of cabin space. At 6ft5 with kids over 6ft now it's unusual to find something that takes us all. I've tried two volvos in between and am now due to pick up my Mk3 Tiguan in the next couple of weeks. I'm reserving judgement on the 1.5tsi but have heard quite good things on it from others and here from Ped.

Glad you did this video. Been looking to move on from my 2021 M440i and had this in my sights.

But I think I will look elsewhere

I agree with what you say about the column stalks. Indicators/ lights on the left and wipers on the right. The centre screen can be confusing with all functions contained. We don't need further distraction. Change for the sake of it.

I'm with you on the badging. We've got the previous Tiguan and it's R 'Line' on the side.

It went into the garage recently and I got a call from my wife saying we'd been given a Golf R as a courtesy car. I couldn't believe my luck. Turned out it was a 1.5 hybrid and the R was just the trim level. Ruined my whole day! 😂
