This is the new Volkswagen Tiguan!

VW’s ever-popular mid-sized SUV has had a facelift, and Mat’s about to find out what’s changed and whether it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 3008 and Skoda Kodiaq.

When it comes to the design, there are several changes over the previous edition. We’ve got our hands on the R-Line edition, which has a few sportier elements than the entry-level car. Up front, there’s a full-length light bar, and it also comes with an aggressive lower bumper and some real vents. Along the side this edition comes with black window surrounds, contrasting door mirrors and black roof bars. At the back, there’s another full-length light bar and (thankfully!) no fake exhausts to be found anywhere!

There are several updates on the inside too. This R-Line edition comes with ambient lights built into the dash on the passenger side, and this car is also specced with an upgraded infotainment screen! It’s a super clear display, although unfortunately, it can be a bit laggy at times. The climate controls are also managed through the screen as well. There’s a large digital driver's display, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk on the steering wheel.

There are a couple of engine options available. The entry-level is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, while another 1.5-litre turbo petrol can put down 150hp. There’s one diesel available - a 2-litre turbo diesel that creates 150hp. There are also two plug-in hybrids available - both use the 1.5-litre turbo petrol, with one creating 204hp, and one creating 272hp. These cars come with a 20kWh battery pack that can drive on electric power alone for up to 77 miles!

The Tiguan starts at £34,000, rising to up to £48,000 for the top-of-the-range edition. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Genuinely think the old Tiguan looks better than this new one

45W USB C ports in the back is amazing, every car should have that

The older Tiguan model looks way sexier than this new model.

Petition to remove the VW touch sensitive, scrolly buttons in replace of physical dials and buttons ➡

Seeing no buttons just instantly puts this car in the “no” category for me. It looks cheap, it’s distracting and dangerous. Surely others feel the same way!

Imagine changing the drive mode when you just wanted to rock your music

We need the EU to make new regulations that say all cars should have buttons or nobs for volume controls, climate controls and steering wheel button controls as standard.

How big of a grin do you want for the front?
2024/25 VW Tiguan: Yes.

"You're always gonna take the opportunity of having 2 extra inches". And Mat said no joke about it.

So £40, 000 for a 1.5 ltr that is gutless and drinks fuel...!! Good Luck VW.

You can say Mat is great when you prefer watching on YT him reviewing one of the most boring cars on sale instead of any other car channel talking about the new Lambo

New Kodiaq / Superb is so much better in terms of controls. These multi function buttons are great

I don’t understand how brands are selling these petrol cars. It has to be because they don’t provide any diesel alternative. My wife got a qashqai petrol company car, and I test it by using it to go on vacations. I was surprised with the bad fuel economy: 33 Mpg going all the way with cruise control at 70mph. I had to refuel before arriving at my destination 😅 Last year I did the same journey in my 2011 530d (CC at 85mph) and I got 43mpg. We’re living in a new expensive world!

“I’m Mat Watson, and you’re watching Carwow”. This phrase honestly makes my day 🙂

Another terrible button distracting the driver from looking at the road

Previous Tiguan looked better btw.
Edit: for those who disagree with me, just look at the base variants of both generations. That will clear things up. Any car will look cool in the most sporty trim(well except maybe current BMWs).

Always amazes me how big brother thinks using a phone is distracting ( which it is) and yet new car interiors are more distracting .

Thats going to be annoying, cruising along at 70, try to turn the volume up a little bit but instead the car goes into sports mode and drops to 3rd gear
