Sump vs FX6 Cannister? Which one is better?

You can setup a sump so that it is dead quiet. I have 40 gallon sump under my 90 gallon tank and my sump is quieter than my FX6, they are in same room. it's just a matter of how you set up the plumbing and overflow. Seems like just a lack of experience with sumps here. Now with that said the FX6 is also an awesome Filter I have been running one for years with no complaints. The secret to a silent sump system is a full syphon. You need three lines, a main drain, an emergency drain and a return. You also need a valve on main drain. You have those things in place then you can run a silent sump. My sump is so quiet that if it starts making a sound I know to check on it, socks need changing or something.

Scuba Steve I have four tanks. a 15G, 55G, 65G, and a 90G. on the 55G, I have two 75 Tidal HOBs. On the 65G, I have two Tidal 110 HOBs. The 15G is a Fluval Flex with it's own filter along with a sponge filter. The 90G, I just set up this past weekend. I put an FX6 on that. The first time using a canister filter. My goodness am I surprised. We can't believe how quiet it is. We keep checking the output just to see if it's on. With 80 lbs of CaribSea Eco Complete white sand without rinsing and two big pieces of driftwood, that FX6 had that tank clear in a couple of hours. I must say that I'm a huge fan. When I move up to the 150G and 220G, I think i'm going with the FX6. Even if I have to double up.

brother I have a sump and I don't collect detritus In the bottom of mi tank, my water is crystal clear, prestine water cuality and its super quiet ... honestly there is something you may be doing wrong ... F6X are great filters tho I've just the before but the amount of Bio Media it's not enough at least for me

You did good man, different strokes for different folks. I’m with you on this one, the tank should be more clearer and quieter with the Fx6. I have a 135 acrylic run 2 fx6 it’s clear and quiet. Also I have moba frontosas in the tank .

I have fX4 so clear so clear. Rated 250 . It's on, 150 gallon salttwater. Most salttwater people asking me so clear are u use fitter on your camera. And stupid haters
