The Best FRUIT I've EVER HAD! Fruit Farm in Dominica!

The island of Dominica is well-known for its fruit production. After several hurricanes, Dominica—traditionally known for its banana production—began producing other sustainable crops, including avocados, coconut, guava, and passionfruit. That brings us to places like Free Up Farms, located along a winding road in a lush green rainforest in the mountains of Dominica roughly 30 minutes south of Portsmouth.

FREE UP FARMS: Free-Up Farms is all about permaculture and regenerative agriculture. It came about in the wake of Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island back in 2017. It consists of 7 acres on an old citrus and avocado farm, which the hurricane completely destroyed. They grow upwards of 40 varieties of fruits and many herbs, including banana, papaya, passionfruit, grapefruit, oranges, thyme, lemongrass, cranberry hibiscus leaf, and more. Their fresh fruit smoothies, passionfruit, and coffee are fantastic!

CALL D SHOTS: At this roadside stand, I tried a strong, medicinal drink made from herbs and anise and a ginger shot. I followed it with fried tuna, a cheese bake, and a regular bake with pepper sauce. Finally, I ended with a culantro shot with some of the local guys!

My Dominica is a paradise. I love how they applied their knowledge of agriculture from Costa Rica to Dominica. The topography and climate is very similar.

David... I'm so happy you're finally pronouncing Dominica the proper way! I could tell you were struggling in the previous videos... Yay!

That large fruit with the edible seeds is called barbadine in Trinidad. We make very delicious juice and ice cream with this fruit. The leaves are also used for medicinal purposes, such as asthma, hypertension and bronchitis.

Aubrey is an amazing and wonderful person. I love this farm, all the fruits I know and a lot I've seen for the first time. I was a kid in a sweet shop. So far I've been there three times. Its better and bigger every time i visit! Give it two more years and it will be a bigger paradise!🎉🎉🎉 Just amazing!

In Uganda we call this matooke. It's our staple food.we prepare it in different ways like mashed matooke steamed in it's leaves, katogo meaning cooking the food and sauce together like we have matooke with peanut butter, matooke with offals, matooke with beef, matooke with dried fish, matooke with Red kidney beans etc. The katogo is our local breakfast sold in restaurants although it can as well be prepared for lunch or dinner.

David: What an enjoyable video. Love the agricultural lands where they plant and grow their own crops in such a natural and truly organic way and get to enjoy the fruits of their labor, like the smoothies and all those freshly- picked fruits. Reminds me of the lands we had in Trinidad where we had grapefruit (shaddock and regular), oranges, papaya, portugals, pomerac, avocado, lemons, lime, corn and ground provisions as well but sadly everything is all gone now. Moringa is very good for high blood pressure but it's an acquired taste. Fried bake with the cheese spread looked tasty, better eaten hot. Glad that Nathan went on this trip with you so that you both experienced nature in it's best form. By the way, you would probably be a good farmer by the way you handled yourself and that cutlass. And as Karen Roache said, it is a paradise.❤️🇹🇹🇨🇦
