Elvis Costello talked about how jarring it was listening to each new Beatles album.

They changed so much it really threw people for a loop on the first listening of a new album.

In short time though, everyone was trying, once again, to copy their sound.

You can sort of trace their drug of choice through their albums which reflected the country and society as a whole.
