I have personally experienced these same behaviors from co-workers. Drink your damn coffee and have breakfast/dinner BEFORE YOU GET TO WORK! I'm going to tell you right now, those of us with a strong work ethic are definitely the minority and the others will gang up, including some managers.
I got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore and now work at a rural hospital, where I pretty much function independently. I absolutely thrive on being a true part of the team. If I'm not busy doing something respiratory related, I'm helping the nurses housekeeping, anybody that needs help. When I'm behind, those same people help me.
Thank you for this speech! It was long overdue.

I am very happy to hear you bringing up that conversation. That style of eating breakfast first before Rt sees the patient needs to be stopped in the cardiopulmonary world.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the videos you have done over the years. Not only did your videos help me throughout school. But most importantly I have taken what I have learned and applied it to my job. I am an advocate for my patients everyday. I talk with physicians on a daily basis trying to figure out and or recommend the best TX for my patients. From switching Ventilator modes to fighting for my patients when extubation is pre-mature and unsafe! Or fighting to get my patients off of the Ventilator. So thank you for wanting RTs to be better! Because our patients deserve only the best!

I'm about to celebrate my first year as an RRT and I can't deny I had witnessed this type of behavior. Nurses and LVNs do it too. I personally don't appreciate it. My patients are always my priority. Thank you for sharing this email with the community and for your continuous support to our career. I really appreciate it 🙏🙏🙏

If I could heart this video instead of giving it a thumbs up I would “💜”. I admire your passion I wish we were better represented & valued as RRTs!

Thank you for this video. I have seen this behavior increase since the pandemic although I have always known of therapists w poor work ethic. One of my favorite things to tell said therapists is " we may be called to incubate a patient but ultimately it is our job to keep them from being intubated!"
I share your disgust at these work ethics.
It is these therapists who make it difficult to obtain the respect our profession deserves.

Amen!!!!

In my mama’s voice I know that’s right!!!

Why were YouTube vids playing on auto and this came on?!?!!!

As a very proud RT I didn’t wanna comment to this out of embarrassment of it being true at times ((SAD SAD SAD)). The sad part is even in school clinicals you could see these practices with students who didn’t even know anything.

That’s probably not making sense bc I’m pretty heated rn at the truth of this and in some hospitals I often stay to myself because ppl saying “it doesn’t take all that”.

There’s many passionate therapists out here and I’m happy to know others feel this way!!! This was true and I feel like I just left RESPIRATORY CHURCH!!!

Restricting visitors encourages lax behavior. If the families are there, RTs wouldn't skip treatments and fake checks. Good on you for this speech, coach!

Yes! I think this every single day! There is absolutely no excuse for these despicable behaviors. Until therapists are held accountable for this nonsense, it will continue.

Some RT's give and chart on meds that are not in the med room for days. How they gave that med is a mystery. Please let's treat these patients like our family.

THANK I just finished your TMC Boot Camp today. I'm taking my exam at the end of this month. I'm trying to learn more to not only prepare to pass the TMC & CSE, but so that I can be a more knowledgeable and more helpful RT. Thank you for sharing this letter, and for always sharing your knowledge.

Thank you for all your content💜
I’m new to the hospital setting and see this and try my hardest to see all my patients. However, how do I do it when my work load is so high. I don’t want to fall into the patterns of other therapist.
I take my job very seriously and want to make a difference.
