You are missing on an essential part that you can still have a discrete RV with float point numbers as long as the subset to which it maps the measurable quantity is countable. For example X(w) -> {1.2, 1.56, 1.989} is discrete. The condition for the subset to be within N is not true. Great explanation nonetheless!

It's a bit confusing, that you are using sample size as a random variable here, you could also have taken age maybe (technically continous but for all intents and purposes we use it discretely)

I don't understand why we need a random variable function or even have this entire idea of a random variable if the outcome of the experiment is already a numeric value
