“Cats are cute and loving animals!” - my five year old wanted me to comment this.

My “outdoor” cat became an “indoor” cat when we moved. About a week and a half in, he decided he was going to live in the house FULL TIME. He is 10 and has become my best buddy!

day 1: under bed. day 2: under bed, "sneaks" out at night. runs under bed at slightest movement. day 3: comes out a little during day. a bit more at night. WEEK 2. friendly, but not much touching. one hand fine. 2 hands scare him. WEEK 4: moved his litter box from first location in bdr, where he initially ran to. he adjusted perfectly. month 1: hopped into bed with me. He is now in month 3, both hands to pet, kisses on head, and finally just in the last week, essentially became a lap cat.. if it is his decision. He still hates being picked up or held. i think it'll happen. if not, he is still wonderful.

Very important in the first week: give her time and space!

The real truth is the cat will decide we’re it wants to be and how often it will demand its human to feed and pay attention to it LOL after all it is the cats house now .

Every time I had a new kitty, I always set up a litter box, food bowl in my bedroom, close the door, and let them have the room to themselves to relax and unwind. I'll usually let them explore at night, or stay with me overnight, then explore during the day.

I love my cat, I have been a cat mom for 4 years. Prior I was a “dog only” person. I have learned that cats are just as cool. The relationship with a cat can be just as rewarding as one with a dog. It’s just learning and understand a different type of language. I love these videos and thank you for spreading education and awareness about all types of animals.

The first cat I adopted from a shelter didn't come out of her box for hours. She only left it after we went to bed. It took her a long time to settle in and in the end she lived with me for 9 years before she died (she was 18 years old at that point). My current cat was so happy to have a new home - she basically jumped out of the box before I even had it completely open and went exploring. But really settling in still takes a while, especially with older cats.

🐈💕 *Success story:* 💕🐈

My kitten was very tiny and came from a cat family with VERY shy and scared kittens.
I don't think they came from a good home because they were EXTREMELY scared of people.
My aunt said: "Don't choose a cat like her, choose a more social cat, "
But I was like: "No, I understand her, she just has a bit of social anxiety like me!" and took her home.

During the ride home, I had her in a cage with the little door open, and played my hand inside so she could smell me or interact with my hand if she wanted to.
She fell asleep in the cage like a little ball! ☺💕

The first hour at home me and mom watched as she was hiding under the sofa, not knowing where she was supposed to lay down and sleep.
So I made a bed for her in a big box with lots of baby blankets and placed it on the floor next to my bed and put her there before I went to sleep so I could have a close eye on her.
I usually have a very hard time falling asleep, so I thought I was going to be able to stay up all night to watch her (this was my FIRST pet ever and I was super anxious and afraid I was going to do something wrong haha😳)
however I fell asleep,
and then woke up few hours later,
quickly looked down, thinking: "Oh my goodness, where's the animal?? Have I lost her already??"
because she wasn't in her bed and I couldn't see her anywhere in my room either.
But then I looked down at my own legs covered in my blanket and saw that there was a tiny little furball curled up so small I almost couldn't see it, and it was her!
She was snuggling my legs already!
☺😭💗💕

I took her in my arms and lay her right beside me like a teddy bear, and she started purring and licking my hand and she slept like a BABYDOLL beside me in that position for the rest of the night!!!
The next day me and her were already playing with toys, chasing each other up and down the stairs, and snuggling in the sofa together like we had known each other for years!
And I just put her into her litter box after her meal and she knew exactly what to do, during the first month she had only one accident of peeing outside the litterbox.
I named her Nellie and she is absolutely perfect!
And yes, she's very shy and doesn't trust many people other than me and my mom, but she is the most lovable little creature and the best therapy animal I could have ever got!
She even walkes outside with me on a leash (which she likes, I didn't have to train her to get used to the leash, just train her for the OUTSIDE basically cause she is definitely an indoor-cat)
and she often sits on my shoulder when she doesn't feel like walking anymore 😊

*So if anyone is telling you to NOT get a certain cat or kitten because they are scared/shy/traumatised, I don't think you should listen to them, I think you should think about it and decide for yourself what kind of cat suits YOU and your life.*
Like I said, I have severe social anxiety and it's literally just me and my mom, so our home and life is PERFECT for my Nellie.
We often take her to grannys big country house where she can run about like she wants, but she never leaves us.
I love her to pieces and she has saved me from hurting myself so many times.
She's like the sister I never got and it's like she UNDERSTANDS my disability and I bet she can probably even sense when an attack/seizure is coming.

*Good luck with all your cats!!* 😊
From Rosie and Nellie, 8 years and counting💜

This has definitely calmed my anxiety! I’m adopting my first cat tomorrow and I’m so excited but so nervous because this will be my first cat. I grew up with cats but never had one on my own. I’m just anxious about what she might get into while we’re gone and stuff like that!

Nice video but the background music was too loud, it was hard to hear the words. In my experience, a new kitten may not only be shy but also cry aloud for a couple of days.

Cats adapt fast and loving at first. After that, they walk around like they run the joint 😂😂

Yesterday, I just adopted a 4-yr-old male cat. The story behind is that a pet store decided to close down due to this pandemic period & was about to let all cats & dogs roam free outside on the streets which is really irresponsible, but luckily people are able to quickly get pet lovers to adopt them all which includes me. Now the problem here is how long will it take for him to adapt to my house. I'm doing a lot of research & homework about cats now coz it was an unplanned adoption. However, I'm now leaving it alone giving him some peace & space.

Just adopted my cat yesterday. I kept her in the same room for the entire first day and she was really skittish and not wanting to be around me. It was difficult because I wanted to he in the same room as her so she could come to me if she wanted and the room isn't that big so if i got up she would dash to the opposite side. Now I've opened it up to her so she can walk into the bedroom and the kitchen, she still doesn't want to be around me but it's only day two. Hopefully she can adjust in his time and be comfortable with me being around her at least. At the pet rescue she was very comfortable in my presence and was loving pets and I'm excited for whenever she will be able to feel comfortable requesting more pets from me

Well, I can tell you most kitties I've brought home settled in right away. I have always been set up to accommodate a kitten or adult kitty. I have to say I have never had a cat leave me once they came to stay. And I've loved and kept everyone. My cat children.💕

My cat first hid around, and then after 30 minutes, she came to cuddle and play. After that she explored the house. Now she’s completely comfortable at home.
She even goes in the backyard to play and then she will come back inside!
(We’ve had her for almost a week)
