Arctic polar bears 'face near-extinction within decades' warn scientists - BBC News

Arctic polar bears are facing near extinction by the end of the century, if the sea ice they depend on continues to disappear.

That's the stark warning from a new study looking at the long term future of the bears.

Greenhouse gas emissions are contributing to the rapid melting of the polar bears' frozen hunting grounds.

Except the population of polar bears is at a 50 year high. They also don't appear to reply on the sea ice as much as was assumed. Less sea ice and more bears today.

There are thought to be between 20, 000 and 25, 000 polar bears in 19 population groups around the Arctic. While polar bear numbers are increasing in two of these populations. 🤔
