TOPIC FOR TONIGHT: What happens when you're an athlete?

- How can you work out when you're fasting?

- How to 'double fuel' on important performance days.

- What's the purpose of becoming fat adapted as an athlete?

WHY DO WE FAST:
-Improve the way your body listens to insulin
-Clean out more pockets of stored sugar in your liver and muscle cells (glycogen.)
-Surge hormones like growth hormone
-Trigger autophagy during the fast.

BE SURE you
1) Check your blood sugars.
2) Be in ketosis for 2-4 weeks before you fast
3) Have a reason for fasting ... [that does not mean weight loss.. a real purpose]
Every time I feel like giving up, I pray or meditate on the reason why I am fasting.

I never make it to 72 hours unless I have a really good reason for fasting. My best fasts happen when I am focusing on a patient & their journey.

The two most common questions I get ...

1) "Doc, what BLOOD METER do you recommend?"

For years my diabetics told me this system was great. I tried several others before I bought this one. I can't count the number of times I have tested my blood only to get an ERROR message from the strip. Grrr. I hate that. 2) "Doc, which Ketones-In-A-Can (aka exogenous ketones, BHB) do you recommend?"

I don't recommend these in everyone. I have times this is a great solution for my patients that are very overweight and trying to get used to burning ketones for fuel. All keto supplements should have magnesium in them. This one does.

Hi I've been binge watching your channel just discovered! I've been LCHF for 3yrs now I lost my first 50lbs at 50 and intermitten fasting daily for 2yrs and maintaining my loss with LCHF also.My mom was diagnosed with a motor neuron simular to ALS in September.I've been talking to her and planting seeds in her about lchf that it could help her anyway I've been fasting for her daily about this and about her relationship with God and I went to her last Friday she told me that she had rested so much better the night before and I asked her did she take anything she said no and she told me before she went sleep she said a prayer! That just filled my heart with joy! Plz keep my mom in your prayers.Thank u for all you do!

I've switched to 80% fat, 25% protein, and 5% veggie carb diet for the past 3 weeks.  My skin and mental clarity are the biggest differences I have noticed so far.  Oh yeah, my sleep has greatly improved also.  I exercise a lot so I haven't attempted the fast but finding this doctor on line and this diet has been a real game changer so far.  Thank you Doc

Hi Dr. Boz. Bonnie from New Jersey. I agree that having a focus while fasting truly helps. I find it more doable during a 24-72 hr fast if I have something or someone specific that I’m praying for. And no matter what it is, the prayer always gets answered! Keep inspiring us, you will be blessed beyond belief! Keto and fasting has saved me from many ailments like fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, COPD, asthma, depression.

Hi Dr Boz congratulations on having a family of three sons. I am certain you deserve an award for that. Your teaching ability is beyond any that I have ever seen. You deserve an award for that as well. After completing my first 24 hour fast ever my freestyle Precision Neo blood glucose monitor displayed a reading of 79.

I'm an avid cyclist and went to a keto woe and burn ketones for fuel, I ride with nothing but salt water and I have done a century without fueling while everyone else was having to take in carbs and getting cramps whi h you dont tey when burning ketones

From Atlanta, in week 6 and 16 lbs down. Having Hashimoto’s it is really challenging to lose weight so I am ecstatic that this is working and Is so easy to do. My energy is up, my weight is down, my flexibility is better, my mind is sharper. It is amazing! Thank you for doing these videos for us.

Dr., I fasted with you last week--for 4 days. I do a prolonged water fast now and then and it was time for this. Was motivated to hear you were calling others to join in. It helped. Been going strong with low carb and IF since July 4th, down 2 sizes and healing certain conditions. More to go. (born in S.D. :-))
