TOP MISTAKES MADE: This list comes shares my recommends for NEWBIES. I didn't always have this list. If I could advise myself 3 years ago, I would use this list for folks starting the ketogenic diet.
2. Eat as much fat as possible while holding total carbs under 20. Do this UNTIL "accidentally missing a meal."
6. Support matters. If you build it... they will come!!

Most common questions I get ...
1) "Doc, what BLOOD KETONE METER do you recommend?"
It's accurate and takes only ONE test-strip to get results. YES!!
2) "Doc, what can I have while fasting?"
    Salt + water are best.
Sounds weird but it's strangely satisfying.
Black coffee - I prefer cold brew coffee.
Pique Teas have great flavor and the highest antioxidants possible. They freeze dry
their tea into crystals. Pique Tea acts like instant tea ... with GREAT TASTE.  Not
    bitter. Not moldy.
Ketones-In-A-Can is also a nice option during a fast. If you have to have something,
use ketones to strengthen your metabolism during your fast.
3) "Doc, how do you know if you're eating the right fat?"
Measure it. Your Red Blood Cells keep track of the fat you eat. The "skin" of your red
blood cells show the answer. Order the test and do it at home. Mail it in for your

I have been doing the Ketogenic diet for 10 months now and reached my goal... lost 35-40 lbs (5 lbs going up and down lately, lol). I struggle like most people and I am far from being perfect. I take the time to learn from my mistakes when I struggle with my ketones. It's like learning to ride a bicycle, you will fall and you will get right back on your bike and start again. The biggest suggestion I would tell people is keep your meals simple. Stay away from making all these incredible yummy desserts with those 0 calories/low carbs sugar. Stay away from temptation.
Dr Boz is an incredible teacher when it comes to the ketogenic diet. I love her teaching and caring for all of us out there. We are blessed to have this technology so she could teach us.
Thank you Dr Boz!!!

I've been on the ketogenic diet for 11 months. I had low magnesium and sodium. A friend recommended your book and it was the first book I read. I also listened to Dr. Jason Fung and read his book on fasting. Both books helped me in getting started. I just started using a meter to measure ketones and glucose. I have been doing this on my own and don't know anyone else who is doing this. My friends have watched and are impressed with the results but so far nobody is willing to get on board. When I first started I couldn't imagine living this way but now I can't imagine not living this way! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time with us! God bless!

My mistakes. 1. Not eating salt hello cramps 2. Not understanding carb addiction 3. Thinking I was cured and inadvertently let down my guard, hello rapid weight gain, anxiety. 4. Not understanding that stress raises cortisol and blood sugar.

Hello, this my first time seeing your Keto video! I started Keto on May 4, 2019, and I reduced my weight from 180 to 144/146 lbs. I will also be turning 51 years old on March 6. So this lifestyle does work tremendously for women 50 and over!
I did do lots of credible research in the very beginning, and I'm still continuing my education on this lifestyle change to see how my body responds. I also follow Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube. He's been a very encouraging and helpful resource for me on this journey.
Since I started this ketogenic lifestyle, I have been tracking carbs, protein, and weight and what time of the day I weigh myself. I just started to track my healthy fat intake a few weeks ago. I do Intermittent Fasting with a four-hour window of eating. I still struggle with this and trying to keep my carbs at 20. But I'm really not hungry during the day while at work. It's the weekends or after church that I find myself "cheating". It takes a couple of days to climb back onto the keto wagon again to deplete the excess carbs I consumed.
I'm very blessed to have found your channel and website!

3 months in. Lost 20-25lbs. I started because of your first book and the powerful story that it is. Learning as I’m going but really I’m feeling great and you’re a great teacher. Thank you!

This is a 2 year old video but what I was looking for. Your current videos have discouraged me since I wasn’t there yet. My metabolic state has been fighting me. This video really encourages me. Thank you.

I am 73 with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and inflammation problems. I just started two weeks ago. My main goal is to change my diet permanently and reverse my diabetes a little weight loss would be nice. I enjoyed your video and really looking forward to your book. I forget to eat all the time and doctors told me that’s why I gain weight. My biggest challenge is confusion. One video says one thing and then another something else. Thanks

Dr. Boz,
I am at a fine weight and under 20 for both BMI and body fat, age 54. I have such a hard time staying above 0.5 in ketones. I would love feedback to answer this dilemma. I am mentally and emotionally better without carbs. Thanks for lectures. Congrats on successful children.

Started September 2nd at 235 pounds...today I'm 183! So happy. I do remember starting and learning about the keto flu. I did alot of research before starting. Never got the flu however got very exhausted til I learned about Nusalt and hymalian salts and Intermittent fasting. I'll be 47bthis year and this is the best I ever ever felt. And finally my boyfriend is also on board.

I am 2 weeks in !
I am 50 year old female
9 year Stage III thyroid cancer survivor. ( No Thyroid)

I have been following Jason Fung’s protocol for the past two years doing inner minute fasting.

Went on a journey to do longer fast and realized I needed to move to a keto diet so that I could flow more gracefully in and out of long fast.

I am doing great !

Have been tracking my key tones with the P strips.

I do 3 42 hr fast a week . Going so much better since going keto.

My one and only question would be is there anything specific I should do different or be careful of not having a thyroid??
Thank you !!!

You are awesome and I have read your book!
♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️

Great video Dr. Boz -- I am one of your mirror neurons ingesting all the infro I can -- - I used to ponder why am I overweight and why do I carve carbs when I did not in my younger days when I was at a healthy weight. Oh, the wonderful insight and knowledge I am gaining! Thank you so much for continuing to share with us!

Came to revisit starting. Fun with TBI, LOL. I'm improving every time. So glad this is all here. Book is great, thank you Dr. Boz. I just needed to hear the points again in context so can line it up. Loved you describing how it is with a brain that's struggling. Its so right on. People can't understand it. Heck, I couldn't myself. Thanks for the safe place to get well.

I am at the start of week 9 and actually felt today was the first day I was able to clearly focus on my work. I started with using the ketone sticks and then on week four switched to FS to get a better idea of what my BS and ketones were doing. For me, checking this way has really helped. I I I I agree with you about getting enough minerals in. The first couple of weeks I woke up with cramps in the weirdest places in my legs and ankles. A good quality bone broth has solved this for me. Since it is a lifestyle change, I kept telling myself “one day at a time” and took time to plan out my meal the day before. There are a lot of Keto resources so I found those that made the most sense to me and pretty much follow the information from those resources. Meals do not have to be “fancy” and take a lot of time to cook or use a lot of ingredients. Keep it manageable for yourself. Your book was recommended by my best friend and I loved reading it and enjoy watching your videos as well.

Have been at it since last year. Very difficult to maintain keto in Italy with all the amazing carbs we have. But we also have great sardines (the name comes from Sardinia) and great fats (ever tried Lardo di Colonnata?) and amazing olives and olive oil. Anyhow, after many trials I think I found a good balance among keto, restricted feeding time (16:8), and intermittent fasting 36 hrs once a week and 72 hrs once a month. Have seen that sleep and stress are just as important as food, be aware!! Will try this combination for a few months and will update. Love what you do, great insight in fasting till you reach the desired Dr Boz ratio independent of time, makes a lot of sense to my engineering background. Thanks for all you do.

I discovered the keto diet almost a year ago while also trying to help my mother with her health and have been following it ever since. So many improvements in our health. I have loved your book and video's and all that I've learned from them. Northeast Houston, TX could definitely use your help. Praying for your family during this time of transition.

I started Keto in July 2019. Did good through Thanksgiving...until middle of December, then splat. I've finally hopped back on the right track and having my 1st knee replacement surgery 3/9. With the hubs getting on the keto lifestyle and being my caretaker, he will be awesome at fixing or heating up our prep meals. I just need to not stress eat. I know with taking pain meds I'll need to eat with them whether I'm hungry or not. Challenges and opportunities, right? THANK YOU for everything you do and are teaching. There is always more to learn! :)
