Most of my retail experience has been as an assistant manager, and it's nice because nobody expects me to demand somebody do this, someone else do that, but when the big boss is out, I ask for volunteers and usually get them too (very fortunately!)

Being an ENFP in a role where being the manager and/or project leader has been thrust upon me many times, this is 100% accurate. I'm great at being the leader, and can formulate good plans to get things happening. But I am not good at directly telling people what to do, nor am I good at making sure they do it. But I thrive when I have fellow employees who can take my directions (not orders!), but I love it when they can think for themselves rather than needing me to lead them on every decision.
Sometimes I find it ridiculous…. They know their job better than I do, so why are they asking me what they should do? I guess some people need this constant guidance, and that is not a job for the ENFP. To sum up - I’m a terrible manager, but a great project leader.
