Trying to declutter this shelf on my path of simple living. In this video, I chat through my attachment to one shelf. Even though I WANT to declutter it, I'm stuck with that decision to let it go.

Isn't it ridiculous how we spend so much energy on things? Contemplating its use/purpose, if we like it, if we love it, should we keep it, do we use it, etc. It's CRAZY pants! My philosophy going forward is this: if I have to think too much on an object, it should not be in my life. PERIOD. Time wasted on trivial things. You did great, Erica!!! It's very helpful to others listening to you talk it through.

I understand what you are talking about with the cozy home, as this is something I tend to focus on. My mom's home was always just perfect. However if you really stop and think about what gives all the cozy feelings it really isn't the stuff. Its the smell of baking bread, hot tea when its cold and ice tea when its hot. Its the sound of laughter, my dog pattering around on hardwood floors, and music that makes you want to dance. The stuff might give the illusion of cozy, but it is just an illusion. If you stop and think about it, your cozy comes from your simple living. Home cooked meals, gardening, the kids laughter, the dogs, and your relationship. These are things that cant be bought and give true coziness to not just your kids, but everyone.

Gosh, suddenly thought what a cute shelf for your daughters room. She could hang a purse, pj's, clothes. And probably she'd have an item or two to display. Cute shelf! Useful!

Good choice. To me, that shelf reminded me of my country decor in the 80s when more was more. I think it would have dated wherever you put it.

Joe's wife here. Love that shelf. I would've hung it outside on our wood privacy fence with bird houses lined on the shelf and suet cages hanging from pegs. Or, hang herbs drying in bunches from my garden and use the shelf for the jars or tins used to store them. But you did the right thing rehoming it and now you don't have to think about it anymore.

I guess for you this shelf comes under 'sentimental' because of what you made it mean for you. I confess I laughed a little when you said it hadn't been hung in any of your 7 previous homes (sorry). Yes, I see its' cuteness too, I can see it decorated with white painted daisies across the back. Well done for working through that, and I am glad it went to a good home. You are a wonderful mum and wife, that is clearly seen through your videos, and you have a wonderful home. xx

It’s interesting how some people can go through their stuff and quick on their decisions ; toss..keep..trash ..etc.. and then theres us that might have to run it through a bit more … take the scenic route if you will.. but I love when we talk it through and then it just hits and we arrive at the same conclusion . I think it’s great when were able to have mini self help victories and we become stronger every time we do 😊
