(This *isn’t* hate, just trying to inform)

Decora originated in Harajuku Japan, in the 1990’s. It was inspired by an idol named Tomoe Shinohara. “Decora” is basically a shortened version of “decorated”, because the key motifs of this style are to be decorated and accessorized to the max. Decora is most commonly seen with rainbow colors (Hadeko Decora). HOWEVER, this isn’t _ALWAYS_ true. For example, there is Kuro Decora (black decora), and Pink Decora.
Things like face stickers, hair clips, bracelets, tulle skirts, stockings, leg warmers, pins, colorful makeup, unnatural hair colors, colorful/patterned prints, etc. are all Decora.

Kidcore started very recently on the internet. Probably around the year 2020. The key value of kidcore is reliving your childhood (or reliving the childhood you _wish_ you had). That being said, kidcore was formed to give nostalgia, whereas decora was formed to be decorated. The color schemes of decora and kidcore are similar, but the fashion *really isn’t similar at all.* Kidcore fashion is very minimal compared to decora. The clothes can be colorful but the accessories are way way less, being that kidcore isn’t about accessories like decora is. And indie? Indie isn’t even similar to these other two lol. None of the images in this video are indie.

So a summary and an easy way to remember it:
Decora = started in Japan in the 1990’s. Usually rainbow, but not always. The purpose of this style is to be decorated and have accessories everywhere.

Kidcore = started on the internet in the 2020’s. Is pretty saturated and colorful, but not decorated and accessorized everywhere. Fashion is minimal. The purpose of this style is to give childhood nostalgia and relive the early 2000’s.

A good YouTube channel for Decora and other Japanese fashion is @cybr.grl . She is decora herself, and on her channel she talks about other jfashion too. Her channel is a good place to start.
For kidcore, since it originated recently on the internet, the “Aesthetic Wiki” actually has a lot of accurate information. So you look up “kidcore aesthetic wiki” and it is the link from fandom . com
