one of the good things you can find in an estate sale. 😊

Borosilicate glass is better for temperature shock but far weaker for physical shock, like dropping it or hitting it as they tend to fracture much easier.

Here in the United States, whenever I find the PYREX with capital letters in the resale or thrift stores I try to buy it because it's made of borosilicate glass. The new pyrex glassware with the lower case letters Is made of cheaper soda lime glass that can't take anywhere near the same thermal shock which is what you need if you're going to be cooking in it.
It's sad that overseas they still make it out of borosilicate glass, but here we can only get the cheap stuff new.

I love those containers, but they are really hard for older adults to open, and close tightly

For food storage containers I care way more about being resistant to physical shock than temperature shock. I am much, much more likely to drop a container than i am to go from fridge/freezer straight to boiling temperatures

I rarely disagree with ATK, but soda glass can take knocks and hard bumps more readily. Borosilicate glass is better with thermal shock. I have a full set of borosilicate in my kitchen for specific uses on the stove but have broken them with little effort at room temperature comparative to today's pyrex glassware. Choose accordingly.

Pyrex outside the US is still made with borosilicate

Been using these for years. Never knew that they were borosilicate. If you're in Tx, HEB grocery stores carries a line of kitchen ware that's borosilicate glass. Three sizes of mixing bowls (my fav), casseroles and measuring cups. Good stuff.

Can the OXO glass containers be bought on line? Or where?

I am a stubborn woman, I don't what I want to do and think what I want to think.
BUT if someone from ATK tells me that this is the best for my kitchen, I'm buying it.

Clark Howard told a story that his family was sitting at the dinner table when the family’s meal suddenly exploded. It was in a pyrex soda lime dish.

I buy vintage PYREX, and use "Sophico" silicone lids sold on Az.

Why they shifted away from borosilicate for kitchen duty is beyond me

Actually no, the new Pyrex is MORE tough, with respect to dropping. Much less likely to shatter from impact. Anyone who works in a lab knows that borosilicate WILL shatter, just not from heat.

How about the bending plastic tabs? I know y'all opened and closed them 200 times, but that's not a huge stress test. Wish they would have designed a hinged lid. Also, it's interesting that you have a set of Rubbermaid Brilliance to the side that you don't mention here.

Pyrex still makes our labware, they've just cheapened out for the kitchen consumer.

“Blue is new.” Soda lime glass often has a blue cast.

Maybe this explains why a Pyrex rectangular 6 cup container shattered when I unloaded the dishwasher.
