Just realized I've been doing this since I started riding. It's also helpful to use the rear brake on hill starts. Frees up your throttle hand for better control instead of using the front brake.

Riding 30+ years and never thought about launching the bike from a pre loaded rear end using the rear brake. Here in the UK we are taught to use the rear brake when at a stand still, it's a test fail should you not do it, so therefore I've always set off from having only that brake on. Now though I may time it just that little bit different, so that I do squat the rear suspension 1st for those occasions when I know I'm going to do a spirited start. Wish I'd known this trick years ago

I'll be honest, it never even occured to me to use the front brake as I'm getting ready to move. Probably because I was taught to use the back brake when at a stand still or at speeds bellow 5 mph. UK rider btw. Love your videos brother

Great skill, just as important as emergency brake or evasion / swerve maneuvering. High quality real world riding skill and wisdom from MotoJitsu.

I have a Yamaha 155, I'll keep on practicing till I got it. Thanks for the tips @MotoJitsu. Love from the Philippines.

This may apply to a prepared racing start, but not so much to an emergency maneuver. If I see a car in my rear view not stopping, I can't waste time loading my suspension. I just hit the gas and let out the clutch and get out of the way.

Your videos are seriously gold! It's helped me in so many ways. Thanks!

When you use the rear brake, you can drag the clutch just slightly to take up the slight slack in the chain, you'll be less likely to stall.
I disagree with your intersection theory though. If am at the front at a light, it turns green, I go, then have to emergency stop for a light runner, I'm not accelerating until the offending car/truck is by. I'd rather be rear ended by a car doing 25mph or less, than hit broadside buy any vehicle stretching a light.
It all adds up to a good reason NOT to jump right out there on a green light. Always take the extra 2 seconds to check for light runners if you're in front.
If I'm behind cars at a light, particularly left turn lanes, I give the car in front of me a couple extra seconds because frequent accordion effect there can cause the cars to stack up fast and stop or near stop right in front of you.
Most of the time, 4 wheel vehicles won't give you room, you can't depend on that, but many times you can make your own room just by not being 'quick' of the line. Takes maybe a 1.5 seconds to look both directions before you go, at an intersection. I can spare the time to avoid catastrophe. Evaluating risk, is not just based on likelihood, it's also based on consequence. Race starts are fun, but rarely ever the right thing at busy intersections.

If you are at a multilane intersection, you should probably stick to the extreme right or left lane, that way if you need to go and there is cross traffic, you have the option to either turn to the left or right without potentially getting hit by the vehicle beside you if they decide to take off as well.

I need to practice this more. I did the feet down launch the other day and nearly fell off! Time to practice!

Awesome. I would say taking off whike rear braking is more easy and quicker in various situations.

Great vid! I practice these quick take offs — they are harder than you think, especially without practice even if you’re a good rider.

OK, since seeing this video and his other video on taking off fast, I've been practicing this on my new bike i just bought. But now i want to know, what about taking off fast from an intersection if your turning? Because i know you dont want to give it too much power and possible skid sideways, so what's the best plan of action at that point?

I feel like there’s a slight delay when I apply the gas’s on my gxsr 600. Maybe it’s and old bike or some other issue, or just user error??

That is so basic it should be part of the MSF course. I have been riding for 8 years and this commonsense tip never occurred to me. Cheers
