1)
Nuclear energy is one of the cleanest sources of energy.

Criticisms of expansion of nuclear power plants in India :-
1) it poses high risks for eg., to natural or/and man made disasters - like the Fukushima nuclear power plant leak due to earthquake and tsunami; etc
2) implications of potential disaster - emission of radiation - fatal to the lives of living organisms and can also have long term effects that may pass on for generations to come eg., land being barren; possible genetic mutations in living organisms- plant, animals, and humans, etc which leads to fatal conditions.
3) cost of operation for safety and repair - costs more.
4) it is also very expensive ie., over ₹ 20 per unit whereas the cost of renewable sources like solar and wind energy is under ₹5 per unit.
5) and the technologies that we have opted to import from usa, Russia, and France has not proved to be efficient in their countries per se,

Pros of nuclear energy :-
1) environment friendly - no emissions and cleanest fuel.
2) requires less land space compared to establishments of solar or wind power plants.
3) renewable sources like solar and wind are intermittent unlike nuclear power.
4) also ensures safety of biodiversity (as more than 5 lakh birds die in the usa because of flapping against the wind panes), etc.

Overall, it is better to focus on renewable energies like solar and wind power given the high risks associated with the use of nuclear power,

2)
Tourism is one of the most significant recreational activities among people.

Tourisms potential for being a mass job producer in India :-
1) India is a diverse place with rich culture and heritage; also have architectural marvels in India - eg; the temples, palaces, etc; geographical marvels/scenic beauties; etc
2) this calls for various jobs related to tourism eg., - transport like rental transportation; maintenance of the place of interest; etc
3) it also reinvigorates the traditional art and culture like handicrafts that are local to the place eg., thanjavur paintings, etc -

Roadblocks faced by this sector :/
1) lack of essential infrastructure like transport and communication
2) fears on safety
3) lack of proper skills among the guides
4) the ambience is not up to the mark of tourism rich countries.

Way forward :-
1) identify all the tourist places
2) expand the scope of tourism eg., village tourism; etc
3) proper maintenance
4) infrastructures like transport and communication should be easily available
5) educate the tour guides, etc

1. Discuss the reasons given by some experts against the idea of expanding nuclear power generation in India. How do these cons major against the pros of nuclear energy?

Ans: Nuclear power generation is indeed one of the best alternatives to rely on. It has many pros:
▪︎ It is more stable.
▪︎ Nuclear power is zero - emission.
▪︎ It causes less ecological damage.
▪︎ It uses less space and so on.
But in the recent years, prominent developed countries have tried to reduce their dependence on nuclear power. The world has already witnessed various nuclear disasters. Some experts are in opposition to the expansion of nuclear power generation in India. The various cons of nuclear power are as follows :
▪︎It is not affordable: It has a very high price. Other sources are more cost effective. For instance, nuclear power costs Rs. 15 per unit whereas solar or wind energy cost about Rs. 5 per unit (Including storage cost).
▪︎ Risk of Life: We all have heard about the Fukushima nuclear disaster of 2011 and the damage it caused. Thus, nuclear power generation has security concerns.
▪︎ Lack of proper technology : The nuclear power technologies that India is looking forward to import are not well received in their own country itself.
▪︎ Damage Of Climate: The organizations that set up these power plants are not themselves sure about the security and don't take the responsibility of mishaps. This leads to an increase in chances of a nuclear disaster which can lead to climate change.
These cons major against the pros of nuclear energy. Therfore, it is not a great idea to expand nuclear power generation in India. We should only do so when we are sure about the technology and security. It should also be accessible to all the common people.
