I switched from Hanafi to Sunnah, people say this is wrong & I must follow a sect or madhab assim

If you are not a student of knowledge (layman), it is is best to follow a madhab. What the sister is stating is not from Hanafi madhab but is cultural bidah that is common in desi communities. These things have become common and is wrongly attributef to the madhab, but when you study it properly it has nothing to do with it.

The title confused me!
Madhab is not a sect, its a FIQH SCHOOL! They each have a way to teach(priority of curriculum), Isnad & ways to discuss cases but they all teach depending on Quran & Sunnah
So Sunnah is an umbrella that have schools under it.
A sect is those whom refuse Sunnah saying Quran is enough, refuse it on political opinion or make their own innovation they claim is a way of worship, or those rejecting commandments to please the enemies of Islam.

That last part is key. The layperson needs to understand that they are safe following the ppl who have the knowledge. If the Imam is wrong, it's the Imams problem on the day of judgment for giving you the wrong information.

But ppl aren't worried about being safe on that day. They are worried about fitting in with some ppl they know or getting a ruling on a matter that allows them to do something the way they want to do it.

There is nothing wrong for lay people, especially non Arab speakers to follow any one of the four schools of thought. If I heard the lady correctly, the things she mentioned are not teachings or practices of the Hanafi Mathab. These are innovations that are practiced on the sub continent. Imam Abu Hanifa said that if you find any of my fatwas to go against Quran and Hadith, then fling it on the wall.

As long as as a Muslim practising Islam according to the teachings of Qur'aan and sunnah Prophet sws, ignore all those sects and rejects those scholars who identify themselves from particular sect and ask ti follow his teachings.

There is so much misunderstanding especially in local areas. Most of Hanafi scholars know the true hanafi fiqh but don't teach people on the ground. The innovations that are ascribed to Hanafi madhab can't be found in Hanafi madhab. I am a general student and try my best to follow Quran and Sunnah while ascribing to a madhab. But when I don't do actions that are innovations i get attacked. Onece my mother told me that people everywhere talking about me just because i don't do the congregational prayer after obligatory salah which I mostly blame the hanafi scholars for if you ask on the internet tgey will say it's not part of salah if you don't do there's no problem but they don't teach it on the ground to laymen. Just because of this i have been labelled as 'Thief' in my village. There are much innovation after the death of a person, in the memory of a righteous person, qatm e younus, Quran qatm feeding, milad and others which actually you can't find in the hanafi madhab and the scholars emphasize on these innovatory acts instead of Salah, Quran recitation, authentic zikr, reading tafseer, teaching tafseer doing dawa etc

I follow school of Imam Malik and I have read all the 6 book of hadiths. 99% of Ahlul-hadith who come to argue with me haven't even read 10% of the hadiths and they claim that they know more than Imam Malik or Imam Hanifa.

If you claim to be Ahlul-Hadith, you should AT LEAST read all the hadith and then we can discuss if you have the wisdom of a sage or the wisdom of david woods which you use to determine the context of the hadith.

In Hannafi, there is no such things that the sister mentions. For example, 40 days after death or Qur'an khaani.

However, there are some groups who claim to follow the Hannafi madhab and do such things. You have such groups that claim to follow Imaam Maalik as well.

Follow Hannafi Madhab as you re living in Pakistan and it will be easier for you. You have Muftis like Tariq Jameel, Tariq Massood to follow the proper Hannafi madhab. Thanks

I always here this extreme words (I say words bcs I don't even want to call it an opinion): "No no I don't know about Imam ..., I'm going to learn it myself" bla bla... and not even knows arabic and reads the version translated to his language by someone he doesn't know 😂 Doesn't trust any imam but has 100 % trust in a translator 🤣
But the explanation in this video is great, the first part about Allah just asking about following the Prophet but then the additionial point that we as laymen cannot differentiate properly between right and wrong is such a great view to this topic. Jazakallah Khairan!

I must say, this was the most level headed response by this Shaykh that I've ever heard. It was on point. The whole premise of the sister was wrong to begin with by attributing those bid'ah to the Hanafi madhab. Very ignorant on her end and I wish the Shaykh did correct her and educate her on that aspect. Following 1 of the 4 madhabs for us laymen is crucial.
