Windows S Mode Explained - How To Disable It

If you are in the market to buy a new laptop or desktop computer, you might run into a Windows S Mode version. Let me briefly explain what Windows S Mode is, It's benefits & limitations & how to convert it to Windows Home or Windows Pro versions.

Thank you SO SO MUCH! I’m trying to download OCULUS app on my sons new pc so he can play ROBLOX VR however the S mode won’t allow oculus app to download. I can turn S mode off, but wanted to know more about it and the pros and cons first. It looks like we have no choice but to turn S mode off!! Thanks for helping me make an informed decision!

Oh I hope you see this Chard!! Windows S Mode is no longer in the MS Store. I've been searching and found your video. It's wonderful I understand every word, and so hoping you will know about this. I changed that laptop from S mode just a couple months ago when I bought it, and I did a factory reset so I could give it to my sister. I help her via Teamviewer. It won't work and I found out she is in S mode. TV is a microsoft app but she gets error messages trying to turn it on. Ok, I'll wait and hope to hear from you. One thing I recently found out is that there is a setting which allows you to set a non S mode version of windows to only install apps from the Microsoft store
(I don't know if it would block apps that have already been installed from running)
Go to Settings, Apps, and under Apps and Features, you should see "Choose where to get apps"
the options under this setting are:
"Anywhere"
"Anywhere, but let me know if there's a comparable app in the Microsoft Store"
"Anywhere, but warn me before installing an app that's not from the Microsoft Store"
"The Microsoft Store only (recommended)"

When my mum got a new laptop I had to show her how to switch it out of S mode, as she would rather use a free office alternative (which happens to be the same one I use on my desktop)
and I also had to show my sister how to switch her laptop out of S mode, as she prefers to use firefox, and also uses the same free office alternative

They (Microsoft) are not doing this for security reasons. They are trying to make it hard to install Google Chrome and other apps that compete with theirs. Just another sleezy Microsoft tactic.

Mr. Chard, I like to think I'm a bit of a better than average amateur, and this is how I get my computer edu-macation, ha ha. I( really like your presentation style, and being a senior cit. I can really appreciate clear speech and at a pace where I'm not rewinding all the time. I would subscribe, but I only watch vid's like this when I need good advice.
