I agree, he did say beginner dev. If you're beginning learn something like python, javascript or java.

Plenty of learning resources. And teaches you how procedural, oop and some functional programming paradigms.

What your’re stating is absolutely false! Every language is designed for specific purposes! I’m in Dakar somewhere in Africa where I use erlang in my day to day job for building scalable and fault tolerant applications for the telecoms industry that handle millions of users per day! So learning a language even in 2300 would necessarily address a specific set of problems that other languages in your toolbox can not address

Learning anything is never a waste of time. But make sure you align your goals with it. Don't learn how to swim when going for skydiving.

I'm planning to get a mac book air m1 for web development, never used a mac before and wanted to try mac for its build and battery backup. my concern is that getting a mac results in software compatibility issues?

Don't listen to this guy.
There is a reason why WhatsApp , a company that was sold for 16 billion $ , chose to use Erlang.

You can also use elixir if you prefer a more modern language.
