Erlang and 5 Things you Need to Know About it in 2021 | Erlang Programming | Erlang pros and cons

For most people, Erlang is something that doesn’t even make a blip on their radar. It’s probably one of the most widespread programming languages that you’ve never even heard of.

No programming language is overly useful on its own – no matter how good it is.

Erlang is a little different though. You combine this programming language with a powerfully optimized runtime environment, and some middleware to handle scalability and reliability, and what you have on your hands is a programming language that can act as a virtual machine as capable as an operating system, with a set of middleware libraries that resolve many of the annoying problems encountered with scaling up whilst maintaining system reliability.

You’ll see why Erlang should be on your radar when you take a look at who’s using it.

Heard about Erlang about 6 years ago and was completely fascinated by the language. Picked up Elixir too because I was learning Ruby at the time and appreciated the similarities in syntax. Haven't done that much programming in it for a while but I'm seriously considering it again.

Erlang. I first learnt BASIC. I didn't have a machine but I programmed a primitive drawing program with about 3-layers which could be combined. I did that on an IBM 5110 during an Industrial Training Stint. Then I programmed in EXEC followed by EXEC2 before finally settling on REXX which I still use to this day. My REXX programs even write disposable Batch .bat programs and even primitive HTML files. That's like 30 years. I am looking at FlashForth for other purposes EG microcontrollers.

thanks for this video, for me, erlang/OTP has been too obscure (and weird) to invest much time in it. However, after 30+ years in OOP, I recently treated myself to a number of books on Elixir, erlang/OTP, Phoenix Framework, Elm and Nerves...studying it now and what a world of possibilities is opening up! I'll need a good reason to return to .NET...

Erlang - twas the year 1999. We coded Erlang and debugged 3G/GPRS Ericsson switches. It was a good language but only as good as the design and development. Early GPRS switches used to reboot allot. It used to interface with Real Time blades (VxWorks) for millisecond transactions at load.

This definitely is one of the most informative and at the same time most cheesiest video about a niche programming language ever 🤣

Erlang when written was way ahead of its time, with time Hardware processing power increased but there was (is) no programming language to unlock that power, Erlang gives you that ability. It's very logical language and a pure language without any side-effects, in mathematics if A=10, then it will always retain its value as 10 and so in Erlang (unlike A = A +1 like in 99 percent of programming languages) . Using Erlang for around a decade now.

Why would you start your video like this? Seriously, it seems red hair is the last socially accepted target for discrimination. Disgusting! Try saying the same things about any other group. I dare you! Whatever you wanted to say in the video, after the first paragraph I was done.
