Chinese researchers have achieved a groundbreaking milestone in optical data storage (ODS), reaching a storage capacity of 1.6 petabits on a DVD-sized disk. In data storage units, 1,024 gigabytes equal 1 terabyte, and 1,024 terabytes form 1 petabit.

Some of the trolls here would try to convince you Сhinese can't innovate. Just send them this video and watch them melt.

Wow, 1.6 million gigabytes or 1600 terabytes on a dvd. Used to be just 500 megabytes per disc. Then it went to few gigabytes. Wonder will new movies be much longer now that memories are plenty ? Wonder do they come in packages of 100?

I remember the 80's and the REAL floppy disks, playing with B/W line drawing images... This is scary :) in a good way. I just bought a 4 terabyte hard drive, and thought that was enough... What the H. will I put on a 1.6 Petabyte disk... Will it transition to SSD drives next for Quantum Computers...

I want some. I want installable data centers on a local disk array.

Imagina a single cd rotating in a cd player and 'serving' whole world in place of Google data centre😂
