My Favorite Ant Farm

Atta Texana ant colony with 2 queen ants in a semi naturalistic setup founding their own Texas leaf cutter ant colony.

They grow fungus by cutting leaves and feeding it to their fungus gardens. The eat the fungus and the queens lay eggs which hatch into larvae which molt into pupae and then harden into workers ants which help forage for food to grow the garden.

Two queens? I suppose I always just assumed there could only be one queen for a colony. Can there be more than two? What's the highest number of queens that a colony can have?
