I fell into the ant world unintentionally.. found a Mymercia queen wandering in my garage recently I'm thinking pyriformis.. 3 months later and she has month old larvae.
Didn't spend a cent either! Found some polytubing and a sistema tub 😂
Now I want more queens! 😩

I caught four foul smelling ant queens and shoved them together in a tube around three weeks ago, and now they have an insane mountain of larvae, hope they live long enough to produce the next generation :)

Personally the best is Camponotus(Mus) because they are big they are easy to contain with barrier like olive oil, won't grow hella fast like small species so you have ample time to rehouse them, they don't sting(though a bite followed by formic acid spray isn't pleasant) and some species like C.mus don't care about humidity in their nest so you don't risk over humidifying their nest which can cause mold and stuff.

Nice to see you picked up a Pheidole antipodum too. I hope she does well for you. I was able to get some from TheAntLab and hope they found nicely.

Irido is literally my first queen, I caught her at work in a water bottle a few months ago, I had already been watching AC and other channels like yours for years, but it sent me $1000 into a bunch of outworld and nest purchases and the waiting game.
She currently has just hatched 3 workers. The cold weather despite using a heating cord to keep her little area warmer than it would normally be, has had her brood taking quite a while to get going.

I bought myself a yellow spiny tail from Queen of Ants not long ago. It's taking her a lot longer to lay her brood though.

My first queen was Camponotus Herculeanus I caught last year. I love bigger Camponotus species as they are cool and strong. It currently only has about 3 workers though.😅

The first queen ants i caught, which are also the only ones i own right now, are Camponotus fallax, Camponotus vagus and a myrmica. Also lasius niger is one of the best ants for begginers since they eat everything and can live in a dumpster.

if you see a big black greenish ant, don’t pick it up, as it is called Green Head Ant as they can bite and sting a venomous sting.

At my property I have a variety of red bull ants, meat ants, green-headed ants, banded sugar ants and little black ants/black longhorn ants (that I’ve discovered) so I’m thinking which one to get and wait for there nuptial flights.

Hi remember me? I'm the person who had the Rattle ant queens. Since then the colony has grown to more then 8 workers but that growth has ended due to it being winter here. I was just wondering if Rattle ants were polygynous because I have seen a colony with more than one queen in my local park, Although I am not sure that the queens I saw were just alates with no wings. Congrats on 7.1K!

Thank you for your awsome videos. i myself keep a couple of ant species, also camponotus but i never knew that they like high humidity. I reckon thats part of the reason that some of them took a long time to grow.

I started with lasius flavus, however now that I am a little bit more experienced I regret not choosing something like messor barbarous instead.

I'm an Italian, and whenever I will, I'll try to take a red-head ant queen at the perfect time, before I have to buy a test tube tbh-
