HANCOCK COUNTY, Indiana – In a brief interaction during a traffic stop in Indiana last month, the suspect in the murder of four University of Idaho students discusses a standoff that happened the same day in Pullman, Washington.

It’s not clear why Bryan Kohberger and his dad discussed the standoff with the Hancock County Sheriff’s deputy, who pulled them over for tailgating.

It was one of two stops for tailgating in the state within an hour by two different agencies.

The traffic nearby makes it hard to hear what Kohberger and his dad are saying, but when asked where they were coming from, Kohberger’s dad says WSU.

His dad flew out from Pennsylvania and the two made the cross-country trip back to Pennsylvania together.

Indiana State Police released video of Kohberger’s second traffic stop, which didn’t include much interaction.

The first stop on December 15th, video of which was released by Hancock County Wednesday, shows the conversation in which the Kohberger’s mentioned a “mass shooting” in Pullman that day, which was actually a standoff and police shooting.

Kohberger references getting information about it on his phone.

“We’re slightly punchy because we’ve been driving for hours, days,” his dad says.

The deputy lets them off with a warning to stop following too close and the stop lasts just over two minutes.

In a news release Tuesday, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says at the time of the stop, they had no information about a suspect in the Idaho murders and no information about the white Hyundai Elantra Kohberger was driving.

The stop happened just over a month after Kohberger is accused of killing Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Madison Mogen.

Kohberger was arrested two weeks after the stop at his parents home in the Poconos Mountains of Pennsylvania.

He waived extradition and will be brought back to Idaho to face charges.
