Aphasia is a loss of language ability following traumatic brain injury or stroke. As Tracy Shannon, PsyD, a rehabilitation psychologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, explains, there are different types of aphasia. Expressive aphasia is a loss of the ability to find the words you need to communicate. Receptive aphasia is when there is an inability to understand. Global aphasia encompasses all those issues.

I have transient aphasia, which was caused by my complex migraine. I’m currently on my 5th day of aphasia and it’s really annoying. I know exactly what I want to say and I can say it so perfectly in my brain, but when I talk out loud I cannot put together the words. it’s awful and humiliating. I’m only 16 and I had to miss a week of school because of this. just praying for my words to come back🙏

I had severe traumatic brain injury and aphasia. America needs more of an education on aphasia. I had to be my own coach and learn how to speak again, write, watch tv and communicate - I want to give speeches now and show my b
rain scans. The brain is the number one muscle and we should show my scans since I came out of my coma to learn what recalibrating the brain and rebuilding back looks like
