Most of these units use about 3 kWh per gallon. In the USA, at least where I live, and the 14 cents per KWH I pay for electricity, means it cost about 42 cents to make a gallon of distilled water. I pay about $1.20 and $1.50 per gallon to buy distilled water. Sure, cheaper to distill at home, but not really worth the inconvenience, for me. That said, when the big C hit and I couldn’t buy distilled water it was great to have the unit. Pro tip - use distilled water in your iron.

Couldn't be bothered, distilled water is cheap as chips at the supermarket or Auto stores..

Those Chinese distillers are really poor quality. If you'd like to burn your house down, this is a great product towards achieving that. From my experience a decent distiller runs up into the thousand dollar range, if you must have your own, but will work well and last a long time.
