Native vs Non-Native English Teachers: Which one is better?

This episode discusses the pros and cons of having a native English teacher versus a non-native English teacher. The pros of having a native English teacher include authentic pronunciation and intonation, cultural insight, and confidence boost. The cons include assumptions about proficiency level and lack of formal training. The pros of having a non-native English teacher include relatable experience, strong grammar knowledge, and empathy. The cons include accent variation, less exposure to idioms and slang, and learner perception. The key takeaway is to go beyond the native/non-native distinction and consider factors such as the teacher's language learning success, passion for teaching, ability to explain clearly, and whether their English is inspiring to you.

I like to share a personal experience looking for a teacher who were able to teach me about IELTS .
Last year I started my IELTS journey and I hired a non-native English teacher who was from my country because I couln't afford to pay for a teacher abroad yet. I looked up on social media and I came across with a so-called IELTS expert who was also cheap and had a flexible schedule. Too good to be true though I gave him a try. After our first encounter I noticed that something was out of place because he was all the time talking in Spanish, which is my mother tongue, while I was doing my best to run the conversation in English. Despite the fact that he wasn't speaking in English, I noticed that he had good insights about the exam. I kept with our catch ups, and after a couple of lessons I asked him for his IELTS certificate, and guess what, he evaporated.
The causionary tale is the next one:
Don't trust anyone who is not able to help you even though when they claim to be "an expert". There are to many scammers out there, natives and non-natives.
A better teacher whether native or non-native have to have enough arguments to demonstrate you that they got what it takes to teach you appropriately.

Learning with native speaker teachers requires being at least at a good level. At the first levels, A1 until B1, it is more appropriate to learn from a non-native teacher because that action offers progress in the language. After B1, I would say learning with a native speaker teacher is ideal because you'll grasp the lessons much easier and without complications to understand them. Anyway, these are just what I think based on my experience of learning English.
