I call them Indians because that's what they are They're the Indians There's nothing wrong with the word first of all it's important to know that Indian that word probably does not derive from Columbus believing he had reached India in 14 92 India was called Hindustan In his written accounts he called the Indians "una gente indios" a people in God indios Indians It's a perfectly noble thing And I simply can't justify this awkward phrase Native Americans first of all they're not natives They came here from Asia over the Bering Land Bridge In fact there are no natives anywhere in the world Everyone is from somewhere else All people are refugees immigrants or aliens If there are natives anywhere it would have to be people still living in the Great Rift Valley in Africa So everyone is just visiting So much for native As far as calling them Americans is concerned well we steal their hemisphere destroy five hundred cultures kill 20000000 stick the rest of them on the worst land we can find and then as a special bonus We named them after ourselves

He helped form my belief system as a young person. In the 1970's George Carlin was one of the only adults I trusted.

India is used for India even before Hindustan and its a Greek word used for India in the European world. And India has several names like Bharat, Aryavrata, India and Hindustan.

Comedian is not sufficient for this national treasure. Historian, Sociologist, Philosopher, and a true Revolutionary at debunking myths.

In 500 hundred years people will believe Carlin was a great philosopher of wisdom and wonder why we laughed at such greatness.

Columbus in his letter to the churches calls it "las india" and the people indios. This was widely published in europe in 1493 as the letter on the first voyage, he claims to have
discovered the first set of islands on Indian ocean -
His handwritten letter claims to have taken possession of "India intra Gangem", india through ganges or ganga according to ptolemy's legendary description of the mythical land. That is where Alexander failed (he could not reach ganga).

Middle eastern people call it Hindustan,
Europeans called it Indus even 3000 years ago.

I didn’t always agree with George but he often had a practical sense to his comedy. He would take a subject and show how impractical society has become. Sometimes what was simple was more correct. He once did a bit about “shell shock” and how the phrase to describe it became so wordy and convoluted as it evolved over time.
