I feel bad for the lady in that second story honestly. Trying so hard and being just incapable has to be crushing

Regarding the first story, I was the person who couldn't do the job! I'd switched jobs after moving and not finding anything in my field but thought, hey, it's still in the transportation area so I should be able to pick it up, but I just couldn't. My bosses were getting frustrated, I was getting frustrated, it was a mess so eventually I went to HR and flat out admitted this wasn't working and it's best for all of us if I leave. Thankfully I found another job, in my field, almost immediately.

Father death excuse Story: I'm so glad the aunt whip the friend into shape and turned him a good member of society. While he may hate OP for getting him kicked out, OP is doing him a favor, he should thank OP for saving his life.

My mom called my sister-in-law, saying she won the Publisher's Clearing House thing. My SIL told her to call me and tell me all about it. She did, telling me that the guy needed a couple hundred from her for "processing fees", and I told her that no one who wins a prize is asked to pay for it. THAT seemed to get through to her, as she's never fallen for stuff like that again.

The smell story: It's not always the smelling persons fault for stinking. I had a medical condition (which fortunately now is gone due to surgery) which made me stink. And I mean STINK. I was told on a nearly daily basis how badly I smelled, but no matter how much I brushed my teeth, showered, wore deoderant, ect. it wouldn't go away. Turns out it was because of a medical issue. But even though I no longer struggle with it, I still fight with the anxiety of smelling because it was so drilled into me
(And yes, part of the condition did/does make me sweat more than I should, making the smell worse through that)

To that last story, and I am speaking from experience as a victim... don't ask "are you sure?", tell the victim outright that they are being scammed and inform them what that scam is in great detail. Reason why I say this: scammer's will get into their victim's heads, using their emotions (like what one feels when they win the lottery, or how victims will go into fear-and-panic mode when they are told that they need to ship such-and-such money or else the feds will be called) to manipulate them into giving the scammers money and/or access to your bank account. Once victims are in the state where they are being manipulated without knowing it, then one needs to tell them that it is a scam. And yes, that will open their eyes eventually.

I was running the admin office at a large Navy command. There was one sailor who just couldn't do anything right even with constant supervision. I was thinking of how I might have to get him discharged when we discovered he had an excellent memory for names. We put him in the mail room and had him sort letters. If he was told that David Jones was in R2 Division and Douglas Jones was in R5 Division then he'd ensure they got their mail promptly and correctly. After he was discharged he got a job at the United States Postal Service. I still live in that town and, 30 years later, when I go to the Post Office we say hello to each other. And there's never any problem with me getting my correct mail.

That last one, I would have looked at the woman with horror when she said that she gave them her banking information.

Wait they didn't promote that first guy to manager?

Story 1. This is most middle managers and many upper management people in IT. My boss's boss is legit an example of weaponized incompetence. When a ticket gets escalated to him, he often emails the tech who couldn’t get traction with the user, the user, me (the team lead) and the user's boss reprimanding MY TECH for not getting a resolution, because he didnt read the goddamn ticket.

This might be horrible, but I'd like to imagine the wife’s response to finding out her husband was hit by a car and has a broken leg was “But he's still good enough to go skiing tomorrow, right?”

LavaLife story: Don't feel bad, op. You did this woman a favor.

5:01 Well, that's one way to find out you've been cheated on, I feel so bad for the lady on the phone

Story 14. At least you were breaking the news about his leg being broken and not him passing away. Probably the hardest news to brake are the people who have to deliver that news. I know because i had to, and it was the most crushing news I had to break.

For the catfished segment: a story of mine.

My husband's friends thought i was a catfish

We met online and messaged for 2 weeks before going on our first date. The night before that day, he was at dinner with his friends and told them about me. Back then, I had a rule that i didn't send pictures online (i was very insecure) so they thought that meant i was a catfish. So my husband begs for a picture to prove i exist and i sent a video. He still has it lol i just go "hi, (husband), here's the proof. See you tomorrow".
