Houseplant Shopping Haul – Discount Plants & Carnivorous Finds

I went on a houseplant shopping haul in July 2024, picking up some exciting (and very discounted) finds! 🛒 At Kent, I found some neglected Monstera Adansonii 🌿 tucked away in the cactus section, dry and forgotten – perfect for a little rescue mission at half price. I also picked up two small pitcher plants, not on clearance but smaller than I usually go for.

The rest of the haul came from MacArthur’s Nursery, where the plants were, as always, in great condition. From there, I grabbed three Venus fly traps 🌱, a tiny bell pepper plant (which sadly didn’t grow much after I brought it home), and two Dracaena plants – beautiful but toxic to pets 🐾. On the safer side, I picked up a lemon balm 🍋🌿 (perfect for infusions and its fresh scent) and a Bella Palm 🌴, which I chose specifically because it’s pet-safe for Chronos. 🐱

MacArthur’s never disappoints with healthy plants, but Kent’s clearance section was a good place for bargain hunters like me. I even collected some fallen cactus 🌵 leaves for propagation – can’t pass up free plant potential! I wrapped up the haul with some cheap soil from Dollarama 🛍️ because extra dirt always comes in handy.

👉 From all the plants I bought, only the Bella Palm and lemon balm are pet-safe. If you have curious pets like Chronos, it’s essential to double-check that your houseplants are non-toxic before bringing them home.

Pitcher plants 🪰 are natural flycatchers, making them great for keeping summer pests under control. Venus fly traps 🌱 are just as useful and can thrive for years if cared for properly. These carnivorous plants don’t just look cool – they help manage flies and small insects, adding some function to their beauty!
