One thing you should have mentioned. Jet aircraft often accelerate while climbing. Plus the moment you start climbing you start decelerating unless you add more power.

Thrust Is the engine pulling forward with wind
Drag is trying to slow down the engines but doesnt work out
Lift is what keeps the plane in the air holding up the weight
Weight The aircrafts weight fighting against lift

When you’re speeding up before takeoff your lift is increasing but still less than weight but you’re not accelerating vertically. This is one example of when lift and weight don’t equal and yet their is no acceleration vertically. This is because when on the ground you also have a normal force that opposes weight, correct? So the normal force makes up the difference between lift and weight while speeding up untill takeoff when the lift exceeds weight and therefore accelerates up allowing takeoff.

Are all four forces really equal during steady level flight? Seems Thrust would be greater than drag to have any forward motion at all. If they were equal, my plane would be holding still...

I have a Quick question for the fly8ma guys. If you completely stall the aircraft, wouldn’t that essentially mean you actually have completely lost the force of lift? I mean, I know that’s the definition, but would that mean your technically no longer flying and are essentially a brick falling? Or is there still some lift and it’s just completely overrun by all weight? And are you technically still flying, even though, for all infants and purposes your just falling?

How can you say Lift will always directly oppose weight ? This is only true in level flight. As soon as you pitch up, the lift vector will NEVER directly oppose the Weight vector. Lift is always perpendicular to the flight path, weight is directed towards the center of the earth, hence not equally opposed. In a climb, you will need lift AND thrust to overcome weight.

1:28 in level flight yes, but shouldn't weight always pull you down? If you fly a show maneuver going vertical, weight should just pull you down (same as drag in that case) or am I missing something?

In this video it is said that in unaccelerated flight the opposing forces are equal. So lift is be equal to weight. But an airplane that is climbinghas more lift than one in level flight. Anyone who has ridden a bicycle uphill knows that it takes more force to ride uphill at a steady speed than it does to ride on level ground.

Understand that the weight of the plane is higher in a plane that is ascending. This is an important difference between mass and weight. Mass (measured for instance in kg) is constant but weight (measured in pounds, for instance) changes. If you'd step on a scale in a climbing airplane, you'd see a higher weight.

However, acceleration upwards also increases weight.

There is NO DRAG and NO LIFT forces! It is Aerodynamic force normal to the chord of the wing!
