Why You Should Work Hard and Not Work Smart

Right now there’s a huge movement towards “working smart” - but when I hear people say that, it scares me. Here’s why:

1. People who are starting from scratch thinking about working smart usually end up looking for shortcuts or “tricks” and end up losing long term.

2. If you’re not happy your situation right now, then it really doesn’t make sense to be afraid of “wasting time” or “wasting effort.” If you’re unhappy, your time isn’t worth much - in a business sense.

I'm huge on being efficient, but it takes hard work first to be successful. Working smart comes later.

Been saying this for years, lol..."Working smart" always devolves into a person finding shortcuts, loopholes and ultimately trying to get more for less effort...meanwhile the person that just attacks it everyday is building resilience and sharpening his work ethic. Working hard is the long play.

It's a lie to chase easy work as the path, the truth for the long term is to work hard always as you implement best practices. I think people are really kissing the point..

Gary is not saying to *not* work intelligently.. or to “work dumb”...
...he is coming against the notion and movement of people that want something for nothing, or think that it will all be easy, and that they don’t have to do anything, add value etc..
And put the most minimal effort..

In other words people who are “work averse”... (lazy, unmotivated, bit passionate, not willing to do anything or much of anything (for others etc))

Hard work is where the momentum is - being smart can help with efficiency and time management. Hard "graft" is good for the soul as long as your goal is locked in. Family, money, career, future or all of the above? the choice is yours.

I’m not really interested in winning. Success means different things to different people. I disagree with the work hard mentality. Putting tons of time into Netflix is not working smart, so I don’t see that as a good example.

Some people work smart by using machines! Therefore the work employment in United States is decreasing!
