Hello Planet Linux ! You have a search bar in the whisker menu just above your username elliott. So you can type sounds and you'll find system sounds for events and sessions when you connect and when you disconnect and sounds for the configuration of your sound cards should you have several of them. To arrange the input and output sounds you have the Alsa mixer and the PulseAudio Volume Control that you can find in the whisker menu in the multimedia category.
PPP stands for Point to Point Protocol.
In the folder /usr/share/applications you'll find all the applications and some subfolders specific of MX.
MX-16 is the jewel of the Debian planet. It has these special tools to install Nvidia drivers, AMD drivers or Broadcom drivers or multimedia codecs in one click. It has an excellent manual and the MX community is extremely user friendly. It also has a YouTube site for pedagogical videos: see above.
