JAGHATAI KHAN'S HERESY DECISION! THE PATH TO MORTARION

Hey everyone Rho here! This week we're going to be focusing on the feud between White Scars Primarch Jaghatai Khan and Mortarion, Primarch of the Death Guard. As we build to discussing their rematch at the End of the Horus Heresy within the Siege of Terra. Today we start by looking at why Jaghatai's decision on which side to choose, is an important part of that feud to come...

A Spoiler Warning to begin as today we will be referencing events from the Horus Heresy novel "Scars" by author Chris Wraight. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself!

Jaghatai is the best primarch. Because he had common sense. He knew emperor was a d1ctator just like him. And he also had no delusions about himself, he knew who he was. But after an ai rebellion and age of strife, he knew humanity was on its way out. So he remained loyal. And in horus heresy, he listened to both sides, and made an informed decision. Even Robute just recently figured out emperor was never his "father". And he was surprisingly troubled by that in dark imperium.

Also his name originated from Mongolian, but I suspect this version of the name "Jaghatai" is inspired by its Turkic version "Çağatay" since Mongolian version literally starts with K sound. J is usually adopted for the letter "Ç" in English when a word is borrowed. But it still means the same thing in Mongol and Turkic mythology, "Çağ" means Era or age, and "atay" was the "god" of punishment. So his name literally means age of punishment.

Jagathai's greatest strength is that he knows he is an uninformed fool in a galaxy of uninformed fools. His second greatest strength is his ability to slay his brothers with mere words. I guess his third greatest attribute is being fast, or something.

5:30 It’s ironic, the Khan makes the right choice here because he doesn’t blindly trust his brother. To me there’s a comparison to be drawn with the imperium of 40k, and the commitment to pure dogma, which requires absolute trust of what the authority figures in the imperium (or even in the astartes or mechanicus leadership or…) pass down as the official teachings. OH how mankind cries out for wisdom like the Khan’s

Knowing very little aboth the Khan, he has been one of the primarchs I knew least of.
After this book I started to like him alot more.

The underrated story along with the prince of crows. Those two characters are so complex and so op. Take a step back and think about what the khan did. He went toe to toe with a supercharged demon primarch and curbed stomp him on both plains. He beat him mentally and physically without special hacks like GW always gives chaos.

As soon as Jaghatai learned of Horus' corruption, Jaghatai would have noped out. If it was JUST a rebellion against the Emperor... he might have joined. At the VERY least, he would have likely set the Scars on the Space Wolves for the scouring of Prospero, which would have removed the Scars and the Wolves from the conflict. But once Chaos was involved, the Khan was going to oppose it. The Khan needed to be corrupted FIRST - like Fulgrim - before he would join a Chaos infused Horus.

I don't think Mortarion would make a difference one way or another. I'm not yet convinced that the reason for Mortarion being involved is good writing - it still seems to be too much of a Warhammer 40k version of "Turtle and Hare", and the writing trying to make it happen but not really having a clue yet. (AFTER so many books have been published that touch on it!)

He had orders. His only problem was he had more than one set. Horus, Dorne, the Throne. He's too logical to not know something is up. So he goes to see himself.

Shit, the man talked shit to Malcador that one time. He's a Primarch that don't need that beef in his life.

I sincerely hope it's the Warhawk, and my next choice is the Raven lord. You can't beat 30k and 40k mongols on space Harley's! Dorn was never going to keep the Scars behind the wall! What did he expect????

I really like Jagatai. He seeks the truth, he is openeyed about himself and the Emperor yet he is loyal. You dont get closer to a hero in 40k.
