What Rich Neighbourhoods in Nigeria are Like | Lagos

Показать описание
Ikoyi is Nigeria's most expensive neighbourhood. An exclusive island in Lagos first laid out by British colonists, it has become an area for the elite. Originally residential, it now compromises office towers, luxury hotels and sports clubs.

Join us as we explore some of the most famous streets on foot, meeting some of the parallel communities living and working alongside the gated compounds. It's what makes Lagos, Lagos.

In Part 1 (of 2), we start on Ikoyi Cresent, the home of oil tycoons and the US Deputy Ambassador. After a stop at a cafe, we venture down Alfred Rewane and Thompson Ave to the house of the Jagaban himself, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Hope you enjoying watching.

The fact everything is built like a compound with large walls and heavy security makes me think this seemingly nice area is not very safe.

I have watched many vlog about Lagos.

One thing that makes you stand out is your free spirit and ability to relate with the locals on their level without speaking down on them.

I also like how you pointed out some houses of the big people without much noise.

You have gained a new subscriber now.

Thank you for showing the world that people could walk the street of Lagos without Lion running after you.

It’s nice to see the more affluent side of the city. Most vlogs focus on the floating slum which of course is interesting, but it’s good to see the wider picture.

Oh my goodness! This dilapidated mess is NOT the same Ikoyi of the 80's and 90's. It used to be very clean with everything intact and in good working order. It also had some old, otherworldly charms to it. This actually makes me sad to see.

Edit: The pleasant people makes up for it😊

I see no reason why all roads in Ikoyi should not be perfect and world-class. Are those Billionaires also waiting for the Government? They must be highly irresponsible.

You are doing a great job. Thanks

It’s a shame how there are so many unpaved roads in one of the richest areas of Nigeria. There’s a proverb I’ve heard that goes something like: one rich man surrounded by ten poor men is still poor.

These high rises in Ikoyi and VI would look so much better without the prison fences surrounding them. That would also require a thorough redesign into making these areas truly pedestrian friendly. Eko Atlantic is nice but even that is surrounded by one big fence.

I hope we eventually get there.

3:03: Some things never change. This brings back the nostalgia of growing on the streets of Lagos, interacting with street 'business men/women' such as shoemakers, snack sellers, tailors, and so on.
