I can't believe they have the *audacity* to do this.

This reminds me of the controversy regarding the fan game, Sonic Gather Battle where the creator had the *audacity* to implement an intrusive form of DRM due to being overprotective towards his derivative work which he used for a fan game.

Basically it’d close the player’s web browser automatically if any web search that had “cheat” or “hack” is done while the game ran along with logging the user’s IP address to send to the creator.

For those legitimately interested in "how to keep your cake and eat it too" with this software. If you use Windows you can utilize application firewall rules to block Audacity from even sending anything to the parent company. Mutahar (SomeOrdinaryGamers) has a video on quickly setting it up.

Apparently, this affects Audacity 3.x, thank goodness I'm still using Audacity 2.3.3. Thank you xUbuntu 20.04 LTS nobody will ever convince me that Auto-Updating to the latest bleeding-edge is ever a good thing with software. Say no to snap and if you have to get a newer version than what your repositories offer, get a new repository, or an AppImage.
