Join us as we delve into the historic Nicene Council of AD 325, a monumental event in the history of Christianity. This council, convened by Emperor Constantine, brought together over 300 bishops and church leaders from across the Christian world in the town of Nicæa, located in modern-day Turkey. The main agenda was to address the theological controversy surrounding the deity of Jesus Christ, particularly the views of Arius and his followers. With no prior consensus among the attendees, the council aimed to establish a unified doctrine for the Christian faith.

The Nicene Council was unique for several reasons, including its status as the first ecumenical council convened by a Christian emperor, the diverse representation of church leaders, and its significant theological outcomes. The council produced the Nicene Creed, a positive statement affirming the divinity of Christ and rejecting Arianism, a belief that denied the Son's co-eternity with the Father. The term "homo-ousios," meaning "same essence," became a key term in defining the relationship between God the Father and Jesus Christ, setting a precedent for future theological discussions.

Beyond addressing the Arian controversy, the council also tackled other issues, such as the celebration date of Easter, aiming to promote unity within the early Christian Church. Emperor Constantine believed that by resolving these disputes, the church could achieve lasting unity in doctrine and practice. However, the question remains: did the Nicene Council succeed in maintaining this unity? Watch to uncover the lasting effects of the Nicene Council on the early church and its impact on Christian doctrine throughout history.

I would implore Theology Academy to use the Christian terms BC and AD. To cave in to the secular use of CE and BCE is a bad example.

I just now happened upon your site. Knowing the early history of the Church is so important. Excellent explanation! And I love the pictures.

The irony of this video using "CE" instead of "AD" to refer to the history of the Church is astounding.

Your production is great. I might not agree with everything you say but it's very thought-provoking and I love this genre of thinking. Iron sharpens iron. Be blessed.

Thank you for teaching. It's good to know the history, beliefs and practices of different denominations so that one is not boxed in to his particular denomination
Which can lead to unnecessary arguments and controvercy.

Good content but why do you use CE to define years. As a Christian you should use AD

Constantine's goal was peace & unity in his kingdom. He had nothing to do with the doctrine. He was not a theologian.

And the different opinions and Biblical interpretations continue to this very day. Finite minds cannot, put an infinite God in whom we live and have our being in a theological box. All we asked to do is follow the WAY Jesus showed us. To love God the reason for everything and love one another. Sadly we fall short on both counts. Thank God Jesus on the cross reconcilled a fallen creation with its creator. If not fully in this age than with much remorse and regret on our behalf in the age to come. But then again only one conviction within Christianity. Faith Hope LOVE these three but LOVE most of all. After all that is the very nature of God.

Great video! The council, like some of these comments, were more focused on unimportant details than the true nature of the Christ. Lots of egoic judgment. This is why I left the church. What would Jesus say if he were in the room? My view; God is everything. We are all his children. Holy Spirit directs us if we choose to listen. Follow the teachings of Jesus to love one another, and love God. It doesnt get any simpler than that. Thank you for sharing this video. It was the best one I watched on the Council. Really cool!
