The geographic diversity is very much true. I had a friend who lived in a very small town in CA and was accepted into UCSB. No APs, no clubs, no concurrent enrollment, just valedictorian. On the other hand, I got rejected despite having a 3.9 unweighted GPA(HS) and 4.0 GPA (dual enrollment/concurrent college), several club officer roles, started a successful club, several volunteering hours, bilingual certification, both AP and college (concurrent enrollment), etc. I was happy for her, but I couldn’t help but sense something was definitely off. And apparently a large majority of her school was accepted into UCSB despite having a lower recorded GPA average than my school in the bay.
