You may be low-income but you live an authentic, free-from-debt life. It's something to be proud of.

Tessie, I worked in office jobs for many years, retirement has now made me very happy. Getting up early every morning, dressing up nicely for work, then getting in morning traffic, it all took the joy out of me. All I wanted to do was stay at home with my children. You have the best life, and I’m happy for you.

I chose to live frugally so I can travel. It’s the one thing that I love doing. Been to Paris, London, Iceland, Ireland to name a few. I also took my two adopted children to South Korea so they could learn more about their culture. It’s all about personal choice and what works best for you

I love being frugal. It gives me peace of mind and a sense of control.😊

I think that buying frugally gives you a better "high" than using "retail therapy" and spending more than you have because the latter usually involves "buyer's remorse" when you come down off that type of high. You always inspire me Tessie, and sometimes it's just to remind me to maintain an attitude of gratitude. You're always wealthy in a healthy way when you appreciate all the things that you already have.

I genuinely enjoy staycations and love being as minimalist as possible (the less things I need to be accountable for, the better I feel). I don’t like to travel. I’d really much rather do day trips instead and sleep in my own bed at night. People like to criticize me about how little vacations I go on, but I say to each their own. I’d rather save and invest in a wonderful home I throughly enjoy while others would rather save up for travel. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I raised my 3 children without government assistance. Worked my tail off. But proud of myself if I could do it anyone can do it.

I live this way also, but I, m not on youtube. I live on 14, 000 a year. I agree this is the way to go. I pay cash for everything. I have no debt. I haven't been to a movie in probably over a decade. I shop the markdowns and cook from scratch for most meals. I take care of my grown son who has Autism. My husband died 6 years ago, it's just the two of us. We don't have cable, but I do have Roku. and internet. That is our luxuries.

You know something? I envy your ability to have a beautiful home filled with love and the knowledge you accumulated. Wish I had the same knowledge when I was young like you.

"When I make money I don't spend it." Absolutely the best advice you can give to someone, Tessie!

Not been on vacation in 8 years, no hair salons, I shop mostly at thrift stores . I admire you! My husband also colors my hair. Most of the time it is pulled up anyway. We can still be pretty without spending alot!

There used to be an old fashioned term called "genteel poverty." A home where there might not have been a lot of money, but there was kindness, courtesy, cleanliness and sobriety. I think I'm beginning to appreciate that term more and more every day! 🙂

I also love the lyrics to your opening theme music, Tessie!
The beautiful Shaker Hymn, "Simple Gifts"

"'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right."

Just perfect for this conversation!
Blessings to you and Kenny!

I get a high from saving! 95% of my clothes are either free or from thrift stores.

Living below poverty level here for the past 5 years. Once every 3 months I go to the five dollar movie night. Once a week, there is a free concert at the park near me. When I want a special dinner, I look at restaurant menus and then I copy it and make it at home.
I enjoy the time in my garden, and nothing goes to waste! I mean nothing today I made black beans, and I saved the juice from them to use in the future. After I grew celery, I use the stalks to munch on - the skinny pieces, get chopped up for stews, and the leaves get dehydrated as a seasoning. I enjoy the way I live and I’m happy that you do it to.❤️

My favorite thing as a child was my bank book they would stamp at each deposit and interest

Since Covid I don’t go to a salon for haircuts, I learned how to do it myself from watching YouTube videos. I also buy clothing from thrift stores or the clearance rack at Walmart. We do visit relatives as a vacation of sorts. I am fortunate to have worked for a health care facility that paid well and had a pension plan and retirement plan that they matched. I’m comfortable but I like living frugally. Seems like I’m in good company here.❤️

I'm in the process of re-watching all of your Christmas Home Tour videos. They give me such a cozy feeling that I'm trying to recapture in my own home. Your videos remind me (I'm 71) of my childhood summers on my Grandparents' farm (probably not very far from you - they lived in a "Hollow" too). Your videos bring back fond memories for me and I've also been watching some of your old meal videos. I too wound up with financial issues in '08 and would like to move out of my HOA community (too many restrictions) and am looking back in PA. I also became a widow 6 years ago, so that's also been a drain on me. Your videos give me inspiration, so thanks to you (and Chevy man) for all you do.

Great video Tessie. I always look to downsize in anyway I can and as a single person my main and only major expense is rent and am really leaning toward living more off grid and I believe I could get my expenses as low as a few hundred a month.
