The Design Flaw Behind MacBook Pro’s “Stage light” Effect! #Flexgate

The Touch Bar generation of MacBook Pro always had its quirks, but the thin-at-all-cost design may finally be proving more trouble than it was ever worth. The latest issue to crop up—dubbed “flexgate” by one of our users, Alex—reveals that the compact design for the display’s flex cables is prone to fatigue and failure, leading to a host of display problems that can’t be easily (or cheaply) fixed.

A non-replacable flex cable bent around a sharp corner that starts breaking after the warranty expires?...
Say it with me:

You really have to "Think Different" to design a laptop with a hardwired displaycable that has to bend around a sharp corner every time you open the device xD

A petition to let them know??? THEY ALREADY KNOW THIS... 😂

Apple's business practices are despicable. I keep hearing about more and more things they've done that make it seem to be getting worse and worse. It's beyond me why so many people continue to blindly support them, no matter what they do.

It’s not a design issue, it’s purposely designed to be broken after the warranty, which is also when they publish the new laptop.
It was carefully designed.

ATTENTION FLEXGATE SUFFERERS! If you want a fix, here’s what you need to do. First, buy some metal polish. Then, gently rub off a small piece of the oleophobic coating off on your display. Then, take your computer to Apple. They will fix it for free under the oleophobic coating recall, even if the screen has other defects.

Dont worry! This will be fixed in the next software update 😎

My 2018 Macbook pro has this issue after 3 years of use. Took it to Genius bar and was charged $678 plus tax to fix it. As an Apple fan, It's sad see the quality of Apple products and service is failing.

Fell victim to this issue today on my otherwise flawlessly operating 2017 Macbook Pro. Drove over 250kms round trip to the apple store to be told that the flexgate issue was a rumour and that it would be an $850 fix. Having exclusively used Mac computers since 1999, feels like a punch in the face. Frustrated and computerless. Bring back Steve Jobs!!!!

this is not a design flaw, this is planned obsolescence

Meanwhile I'm watching this on my Jobbs era mid 2010 MacBook Pro that simply refuses to die. Things have changed...

Apple knowingly designed this cable as part of the display. Just like how they hold the back on with clips as well as screws. It's all intentional design to make the MacBook more likely to break through increased fragility of the display and excessive force required to remove the back cover.

I have this issue with a 2018 model (A1989). Always treated it carefully and now the exact same problem occurred. I now have to pay 700€ even though it‘s a known design issue. Soo angry about this customer unfriendly behavior

Apple gives you only 1 year of warranty for macbook that costs $1000+? I got 4 years of warranty for my $400 HP laptop

The issue also applies to the 15 inch models for those of you wondering. However Apple does not cover the 15 inch models.

It's almost like it was designed to wear out after the warranty to stimulate a replacement

What's really impressive is how long they lasted after Steve's death. Finally now, we really see what's left of apple without him.

Its sad to see what apple products have become. My 2012 Macbook pro still works without a problem, the 2015 one doesnt
