I've heard via several behind the scene clips that Giancarlo Esposito (Gideon) was acting/fighting with such passion that he broke several prop sabers during filming of the fight scene.

The best part about this is that Moff Gideon knew he wasn't going to beat a Mandalorian in combat, he just wanted Din to beat him so that the darksaber would be his by right as one last "fuck you" to Bo-Katan. You see the smirk on his face the second they walk onto the bridge and she sees Din holding the darksaber, and you can see in her face that she knows that Gideon has done it deliberately.

The thing I love about Moff Gideon, is that he believes he is the good guy. This dynamic tends to be one of the best ones for villainous characters. As he says, "the murderous savages that they are". I love how Giancarlo Esposito delivers the line. He seems very sincere in the delivery. He's not entirely wrong. The supposed "good guys" of this story are willing to kill for what ultimately is a matter of opinion as to how the Galaxy should function. We are used to Jedi as the good guys. What happens when it's Mandalorians vs a would be Empire? Sure, we're led to believe the Mandalorians are the good guys, but are they? As far back as the Clone Wars they've been a violent species, with only dutchess Satine calling for a more civilized way. Obviously the empire is the bad guy here, but I like when a villain's dialogue can have you at least wondering if they have a point.
