Great idea. I think I'll leave the lazy susan together, leave the top board off and use it to hold my tall paint brushes, scissors, etc.

Fun project! Oh! That top piece to the small organizer, you could always glue it to the top of the final project for extra organization :) it will then rotate with the entire piece!
