10 States With the Highest Food Stamp Rate.

Let’s take a look at the states with the highest percentage of residents that are in need of some help. Today we are looking at states with the highest per capita of Welfare recipients. There are a lot of misconceptions about welfare. The first is it is only inner cities people on welfare. It is actually per capita about evenly split between rural and city people. Some people think it is just one political party's state, and a lot of people think it is just free money dropped of in bank accounts. Most of the welfare comes in what most people call food stamps.
There are different programs that would fall under the term food stamps they just go by different names.
That is what we are looking at today, food stamps and the per capita of the highest states. To give you an idea of how high some of these states are the state with the lowest rate in Wyoming with about 4400 per 100k residents.
Now if we went by the state with just the total amount obviously the most populated states would make up that list. I’ll give you those numbers towards the end of the list and those are shocking so stay tuned for that.

Thank you for being so respectful in this video. My family had to go on SNAP about 10 years ago when my husband and I both lost our jobs at the same time. It took a few months to get back on our feet and I was grateful that we were able to get that assistance. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

As it turns out, people ARE often voting against their own interests.

For many years my Mom was on public assistance: welfare, food stamps and government commodities. She went to nursing school during my preteen and teen years. Finally, she no longer needed any type of public assistance.

I live in PA and am pleased to see the beginnings of the Little Free Pantry taking place in some areas. I hope this will spread and more people will have access if or when they need it. It's a good feeling to be able to bring shelf stable items to a place where you know your neighbors in need can find it without embarrassment. It's depressing to hear about how many people are in need. I think the needs keep rising with inflation and sometimes the government doesn't want to help people who should qualify, so any little thing we can do to help out our neighbors, or things we can learn like gardening, are going to be important in the years ahead.

Thanks for treating those of us on SNAP with respect. People like myself who are disabled or elderly people whose only income is Social Security would far rather be with higher incomes such as working or a pension. I often hear people making comments about how they would love to be able sit back and collect money from government programs because they think were are lazy. I tried to go back to work after my stroke, but employers will often not hire disabled people no matter how much incentive they are given to do so.

I live in Ohio, and I've been on SNAP since February. I ended up on it because I became physically disabled and unable to work. I just received Social Security disability a couple months ago, and I'm considered totally disabled. The loss of balance has been the worst part of this and if I step wrong I can easily break my ankle since I can't feel my feet anymore.

My grandma had seven kids one of them my dear mother and there was no welfare. We need to help folks every time we can. Thanks for your work to make people aware. You’re a fine American.

I live in Michigan. I am 70. I am a Vietnam Era Vet. 6 years. 72-78 6 years. I just applied for FS. I get a whole $10 a month.
I guess you might say I am used to being screwed with. I'm told one thing but the reality is lacking, big time.

Didn't know that about New Mexico. Of course my experience with New Mexico is the Santa Fe area and it's pretty upper crust.
Once when in Alabama on business I got invited to go out on the Tennessee river on a coworkers boat. Since there was the possibility of swimming I needed some swimming trunks. I saw a thrift store and thought maybe I could get a cheap pair of trunks there. I remember standing in line behind some obviously very poor women buying used clothes for their kids. I check the time on my expensive watch and then realize how fortunate I am. People like me and people like the customers in that store never cross. I got my pair of trunks for fifty cents. I'm 100% for a safety net and no one in this country should go hungry. I just wish the programs were more efficient and there was less fraud and abuse.

Great job Mr. Briggs..
Not surprised by Oklahoma still being on the higher end of this list. In my line of work, I drive through and to, a lot of the dead or dying rural towns, and I suspect a percentage are on welfare. Also since most of Oklahomans, live in rural cities (can I call them that ?) or towns, of course the percentage of welfare recipients is going to be higher in said areas. Again, great job. Can’t wait for the next post

You are so right, about SNAP being a safety net. I was on, and off, for various lengths of time over the course of the 18 years I raised my daughter. No family would help because I wasn't married to her father. So if anyone wants to get on their high horse about public assistance being a bad thing, remember that public assistance is egalitarian. Everyone who is in need can get help, regardless of whatever "sin" they may have committed to get there. When I worked in NM there were kids in the high school who were homeless because their families threw them out for being LGBTQ, afraid they would pollute their siblings, yet they were able to get food stamps. Public assistance does not judge, it just helps. So if you think it is a bad thing, then go offer to help someone who is estranged from their family and struggling.

My frustration is the people who believe that everyone on any kind of assistance program is a leech. All those people are lucky to not know what it feels like to need help. And for the ones that feel that way and also have received help in the past, they need to take a look at the irony of their belief.

I have known people in West Virginia who are fourth and fifth generation welfare. They treat it like the family tradition. "My parents were on welfare as were my grandparents. When I am old enough I'll be on welfare too!" It is hard to fight that kind of mentality.

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania and I can tell you that the towns in that state would rather completely die while trying to stay in the past than actually try to evolve and thrive. Rural pennsylvania Is the most reactionary and backwards place I have ever lived. Though I confess I’ve never lived in the southeast.

Thanks for the public service video---we need to be reminded how good most of us have it, and to perhaps give a little more when we can afford it. Whether giving donations or volunteer time like you mentioned. Loved the gopher story! lol!

Briggs. Hope your Christmas was well.

Do Top 10 states with the most married residents. Nebraska would definitely be on the this list.

Dude i really like your channel. But maybe you should make another one where you talk about other countries. Like cost of living and safety etc etc.

Good info my friend. I was that guy in military! Yep if I get hungry and there's nothing cooking I'm going out and finding something.
I do think if Oregon had fewer homeless there rating would be better. It's been a few years that Oregon has done everything in their power to attract the homeless and as they say if you build it they will come.
I tried years ago to get some help when I was out of work and was having trouble getting a job. I was sent away without anything, yep they denied me any help at all. The last time I was on unemployment I told myself never again. That was the last time I ever took anything from the government.
Okay, I woke up 3 hours early this morning. I wrote this using a figure of speech. What I should have said was I'm just like that guy. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
