2024 Volkswagen T-Roc Style Review | A small SUV worth its price premium over Asian alternatives

Can Volkswagen’s mid-spec small SUV carve a niche for itself?

The 2024 Volkswagen T-Roc isn’t the newest, coolest or most advanced small SUV in its class, but it gets all the fundamentals very, very right.

Currently the best-selling Volkswagen model in Australia, the VW T-Roc is safe, fuel-efficient and is priced sharply enough to steal sales from Japanese competitors.

It’s not perfect and it’s missing a few key features, but there are few small SUVs that can match it for driver engagement and the T-Roc also comes with a reasonable warranty, enough equipment to satisfy most tech-heads and a desirable European badge.

Senior editor Feann Torr dives in to investigate whether this mid-range 2024 Volkswagen T-Roc Style variant should be on your shopping list.

I been driving one on hire for 2 weeks and very surprised how good it was, the disappointment was the engine is a bit small compared to the Mazda CX 30 and for the same price I could get the 2.5 engine upgrade, the cost of servicing is roughly $300-500

Still need to extra engine oil in the boot? I put about 1 litter engine oil every 1000kms.

The touch HVAC controls are too irritating.

Our family has been burnt too many times with quality and reliability issues from Volkswagen Audi Group cars, I’d definitely stay away from Audi and VW as my time and wallet don’t need to to keep suffering. A shame as I do like their styling. The cost cutting in their engineering is probably the culprit

Will you ever test off-road capabilities of this car?

Seems an odd closing line '' is this the sort of car you would put on your shopping list when considering other cheaper Asian models''

If you were considering cheaper Asian models, then why would you put a more expensive German car on that list ?

Recently had one on hire for a trip to Hobart, & I really need to ditch the Captiva ( which for 10 years has been fine ) for a small SUV. We really liked it but then I read the huge variation of comments here around service & repair costs, which worries me a bit . Though If I only have it a few years I might be safe I suppose from being fleeced on those costs. Overall it fitted the bill for us really well for a few days in Tassi.

Good job Volkswagen for this product, however, the service cost is still too expensive.

BruceJacquesRC, be VERY worried. My T-Roc had 5 different recalls in the 18 months that I owned it. It's a big ugly hunk of junk. Let me just say, the T-Roc is even worse than the old guy in the ad wearing ripped jeans...total creeper

I crossed shopped this with a Mazda CX-30. Went with Mazda. It felt much better in quality over the T-Roc.

Two months ago my wife was given the 1.5T DSG style as a company car. This car is so average on everything and so bad at certain points that you want to get out while driving. It doesn't resemble anything from VW, the DSG doesn't know what's going on (it's been set by a clown) and it ruins a good engine. Consumption is very high in the city and on short journeys, over 11lt/100km. Its good points are handling and brakes. All in all it's a really bad car and the worst VW I've driven since the 90's to date. FYI I have owned VW cars for 30 years straight and unfortunately it is my fault that my wife chose this pile of junk.

I am not surprised by this title, because Australian has always regarded themself as "White Australia" and has a natural sense of self-superiority. It is also a country with very strong racial discrimination。
